New Steam Game is Like Animal Crossing, But With a Twist

A new life simulation game is coming to Steam, drawing inspiration from popular titles like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. Life simulation games have become incredibly popular over the last ten years, thanks to the relaxing gameplay of games like Stardew Valley. Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a massive hit in 2020, becoming one of the best-selling Nintendo Switch games, and many indie developers have since found success with similar games on Steam. This new title takes the life simulation formula and combines it with the world of popular VTubers – online content creators.

Founded in early 2017, Hololive has quickly become a leading force in live streaming. The Japanese company saw huge growth in the early 2020s, with creators like Gawr Gura and Kiryu Coco gaining massive popularity online. This success allowed Hololive to expand globally, creating branches in Indonesia and China and launching a popular English-speaking group. Now, fans can connect with their favorite Hololive streamers in a new indie life simulation game.

New Steam Life Simulation Game Features Popular VTubers

Fans of Hololive VTubers will soon be able to live a virtual life alongside their favorite stars in the upcoming game, holoVillage: Our Cozy Days. Developed by Roboqlo and published by Hololive, the game is similar to Animal Crossing, letting players farm, fish, and run a shop in a peaceful village. What makes holoVillage special is the ability to play as and interact with popular VTubers like Mori Calliope, Shiori Novella, and Gawr Gura. Trailers hint at multiplayer features with unique cooperative gameplay. holoVillage is scheduled for release in 2026.

The Steam page for holoVillage suggests players can do a lot in the game. It combines life simulation with action combat and dungeon exploration. You might even be able to team up with your favorite Hololive VTubers in battles! The game also focuses on customization, letting you design and share your house and shop, and choose from many different outfits.

Hololive VTubers Are Appearing in More Games

The VTuber world is increasingly appearing in video games, both through dedicated titles and smaller appearances. Hololive, a popular VTuber agency, has its own game publishing division, Holo Indie, which creates games featuring its talents. Examples include the fighting game Idol Showdown and the beat-em-up Holo X Break. Hololive VTubers are even making cameos in larger titles – Hideo Kojima, the creator of Death Stranding 2, included a Hololive VTuber as a special appearance because he’s a fan of Usada Pekora. Beyond gaming, Mori Calliope from Hololive English performed the ending theme song for the Suicide Squad Isekai anime in early 2024.

holoVillage appears to be a relaxing life simulation game that will likely appeal to fans of Hololive and anyone who enjoys cozy games. The life simulation genre has become increasingly popular, with developers exploring different themes and adding unique elements. We’ve seen indie games like Drakantos and Fields of Mistria incorporate fantasy settings, while others, such as Roots of Pacha, focus on different historical periods. Larger companies are also joining the trend, with upcoming games like Pokemon Pokopia and Petit Planet from HoYoverse offering their own versions of the Animal Crossing experience. holoVillage promises a pleasant and immersive experience for all life simulation enthusiasts, even if they aren’t familiar with Hololive.
