In my humble opinion, each character in Re:Zero has their own unique journey and growth that makes them special in their own right. However, if I were to pick the most significant relationships in this captivating series, it would have to be the bonds between Subaru, Beatrice, Otto, Rem, and Emilia.

In the exciting news that has been building up for quite some time, the third season of “Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World” is back! The beloved characters Subaru Natsuki and Emilia are once again stepping into the action within this captivating isekai series. As one of the most acclaimed anime and manga, “Re:Zero” has made a significant impact on pop culture due to its intriguing storyline, immersive world-building, and complex characters, setting it apart as a standout in the cultural landscape.

In the realm of Isekai stories, Subaru has become one of the genre’s most celebrated lead characters. As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice the stark contrast between Ram and her sister Rem when it comes to their treatment of Subaru in Re:Zero. Unlike Rem, who seems to be smitten by Subaru’s charms, Ram tends to keep her distance from him, often addressing him as Barusu. Their interactions at Roswaal’s Manor are usually frosty, and I find it intriguing that Subaru’s winning personality doesn’t seem to have any effect on Ram.

Serving faithfully under Roswaal L. Mather, who is known as a wizard, Ram fulfills his duties. Yet, during Subaru’s attempts to overcome Roswaal within the Sanctuary, Ram extends a helping hand, demonstrating that he holds genuine concern for Subaru, even though he may come across as reckless and obstinate at times.

7 Puck

Emilia’s Father Figure And Friend To Subaru When He Requires Aid

Crafted by Echidna, the Greedy Witch, Puck is a spirit assigned to safeguard Emilia. Devoted to her protection against any threats, Puck and Subaru find themselves spending considerable time together due to this duty. In the course of their frequent interactions, Subaru develops romantic feelings for Emilia, whom Puck considers his daughter.

In the world of “Re:Zero,” Puck and Subaru maintain a supportive bond, with Puck often lending a hand when Subaru’s in trouble. However, in certain timelines where Subaru meets his untimely end, it is Puck who ends Subaru’s life – an action prompted by his failure to save Emilia, which ultimately transforms him into the Beast of the End.

6 Reinhard Van Astrea

Initially, when Subaru encounters difficulties in the world of Re:Zero, he enlists the aid of Reinhard Van Astrea, a knight from Lugunica, to rescue him. As the most powerful character in Re:Zero, Reinhard effortlessly saves Subaru, demonstrating his might and devotion, as he triumphs over Elsa Granhiert in combat.

Regardless of their contrasting personalities and degrees of knighthood, Reinhard and Subaru grow close as friends. In the story, it’s evident that Reinhard watches over Subaru, especially when Subaru assumes the role of knight for Emilia in her pursuit to become Queen of Lugunica.

Growing up in the tumultuous Arlam Village, I, Petra, have faced more than my fair share of heartache and hardship at a tender age. In the world of Re:Zero, it’s Subaru who becomes my beacon of hope and source of strength. When this peculiar man known as Subaru steps foot in Arlam Village, I and many of the village children gaze at him with wide-eyed wonder. This quirky, boastful character provides us comfort and reassurance when we find ourselves under attack by fearsome Wolgarms.

Following Subaru’s heroic actions in saving Arlam Village twice, Petra decides to join Roswaal’s Manor as a maid. This move echoes Subaru’s path, a person whom Petra holds dear, as she continues to follow in his footsteps.

4 Beatrice

Stubborn Follower Of Echidna That Subaru Helps Break Out Of Their Shell

Similar to Puck, Beatrice is a spirit that Echidna crafted long before the present storyline in Re:Zero. Typically found within the Forbidden Library of Roswaal’s Manor, Beatrice is an introspective character who spent more than 400 years waiting for someone to free her from a vow. Subaru was the one who broke Beatrice’s contract and guided her towards leaving her predetermined path behind.

As much as Beatrice and I used to squabble like cats and dogs, over time we built a bond based on trust. Our friendship blossomed from those contentious moments, making us inseparable comrades in the gaming world.

3 Otto Suwen

Friendly Merchant That Cares For Subaru

Debut: Anime Episode 14

In the storyline, Otto Suwen chooses to ally with Subaru as the main character enlists his aid during their mission to rescue companions. Initially perceiving Subaru as problematic, Otto and Subaru eventually forge a strong bond, becoming reliant on each other in critical, potentially fatal scenarios.

In the Sanctuary, when Subaru clashes with Roswaal, the Book of Wisdom fails to factor in Otto’s significant role. Despite Subaru feeling down during this fight, it’s Otto who steps up to guide him, proving that he can lean on others for support as he progresses on his adventure.

2 Rem

Maid Who Learns To Love Subaru

At first, Rem was wary and doubtful about Subaru and his motives. However, over time they developed a strong friendship, with Rem even confessing her feelings towards him. During their work at Roswaal Manor, Rem’s mistrust of Subaru led to her trying to harm him.

After Subaru’s resurrection, he manages to save Rem during a mission to protect Arlam Village’s children. This act softens Rem towards Subaru, who had initially been apprehensive about him. Later, when Subaru is exiled from Emilia’s side, Rem stands by him, offering comfort. Rem also expresses her feelings for Subaru, despite his romantic attachment to the half-elf, Emilia.

In an attempt to win Emilia’s favor, Subaru makes a series of choices that ultimately strain their relationship when Emilia decides to run for the throne of Lugunica, leading him to distance himself from her.

In order to correct his mistakes, Subaru perseveres and gives up everything in an attempt to protect Emilia and their bond, which ultimately brings them even closer. This selfless act culminates in Subaru declaring his wholehearted affection for Emilia within the Sanctuary.
