The Battlefield Labs Program Is Making a Comeback

DICE, the team behind Battlefield 6, is bringing back Battlefield Labs, giving players a chance to try out the next big update before it officially launches later this month. This playtest isn’t open to everyone – it’s an invite-only program. However, all Battlefield 6 players can sign up for a chance to participate through the EA website, and no other steps are required. This will allow DICE to gather valuable feedback and improve the update before releasing it to the wider community.

Battlefield Labs is a way for fans to try out upcoming Battlefield games before they’re officially released. Players selected for the early tests had to keep everything confidential and couldn’t share any gameplay footage. Recently, Battlefield Labs was used to test Battlefield REDSEC, the new free-to-play Battle Royale mode, which was unveiled on October 27th, just before it launched with Season 1 of Battlefield 6.

Battlefield Labs Returns on December 2

After the popular tests of Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC, the Battlefield Labs playtest is returning on December 2nd. DICE announced on Twitter that new play sessions will be held on PC through the EA App and Steam between 8-10 PM JST, 7-9 PM CET, and 4-6 PM PST. This test will give players a first look at the updates and content coming in the December 9th update, but everyone participating will need to agree to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

The next update will be small but impactful, with DICE concentrating on improving how the core game feels – making things clearer, more responsive, and generally better in combat. These improvements, including clearer audio cues for footsteps (making it easier to judge distance, surface type, and locate enemies), will be tested on the Eastwood and Operation Firestorm maps within the All-Out Warfare playlist. The team is also refining the game’s networking and how accurately hits register, with a focus on smoother and more reliable close-quarters combat. Players who join the test will have a chance to share their feedback before the changes go live next week.

After the unexpected launch of Battlefield REDSEC, many thought Battlefield Labs would be put on hold until the next full Battlefield game. However, DICE has announced they plan to continue using the system to try out new ideas and experimental gameplay for Battlefield 6. They’re currently planning future playtests to explore things like different map designs, game speed, and team setups – including options for smaller matches or games focused on vehicles.

Players interested in trying out early versions of the game can apply through the EA website. Even if you’re not chosen for the testing program, you won’t have to wait long for news about Battlefield 6. The final update for Battlefield 6 Season 1 arrives on December 9th, bringing a new map, an ice climbing axe for melee combat, improvements to the Portal mode, and a new event called Ice-Lock Gauntlet for Battlefield REDSEC. According to the latest announcement, this update will also include significant changes to how the game plays.
