Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming live-action God of War series has hired an Emmy-winning director to helm the first episodes. Production is moving forward quickly, as the show has already been renewed for a second season.
The popular and violent God of War video game series has been a hit with players since 2005. Despite previous efforts, a successful movie or TV adaptation has never been made. However, in 2022, Amazon’s Prime Video announced a new show based on the recent God of War games, and many people who worked on the games are involved in its production. Recent reports suggest filming is well underway, and casting news has begun to surface.
Amazon Prime Video’s God of War Gets Frederick E.O. Toye to Direct First Episodes, Casting and Pre-Production Underway
Okay, so I just saw the news – Frederick E.O. Toye, who directed stuff for The Boys and the Fallout show on Amazon, is going to direct the first two episodes of the God of War series on Prime Video! He’s a big deal, apparently winning an Emmy for his work on Shogun and an episode called “Crimson Sky”. Right now, though, it’s not known if he’ll be involved with any more episodes beyond those first two, either in season one or if there is a season two.
The show has been picked up for a second season, as it was originally planned to have two seasons. Work on the second season, including casting, is already beginning. If the filming schedule is accurate, we could find out who will play Kratos and Atreus within the next couple of months. While names like Dave Bautista and Winston Duke have been suggested by fans, an official announcement is coming soon. With two seasons confirmed, it’s likely the series will cover the storylines from both God of War and God of War: Ragnarok.
