Hideo Kojima Joins Zootopia 2 Cast Days Before Release

Game designer Hideo Kojima, famous for his work on popular video games, will be voicing the character of Paul Moldebrandt, a mole police officer, in the Japanese dub of Zootopia 2. Director Jared Bush personally asked Kojima to lend his voice to the film.

Zootopia 2 is set to hit screens in just a few days, launching on Friday, December 5.

An Unexpected Cameo

Hideo Kojima shared his excitement about voicing a character in the upcoming Zootopia 2, according to an interview with Famitsu.

I’ve done a lot of on-screen and video game work with brief appearances, but this is the first time I’ll be providing the voice for an animated movie. It’s especially exciting because it’s a Disney film!

Hearing it directly from the director, Jared Bush, was a huge honor, and I immediately agreed.

I only had a small part in this project, but even just recording my lines, I was blown away by how much detail they put into everything. The artwork really helped me get into character and made the whole session go smoothly. Usually, I’m the one directing, so it was really cool to be on the other side and be the actor. It made me realize how much thought voice actors give to even the little things – like flipping pages quietly or adding realistic sounds. It was a great learning experience!

Hideo Kojima isn’t new to acting, as he’s taken on small roles in several games over the years. You might recognize him from appearances in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Control. He’s also appeared in his own Metal Gear Solid games and made brief cameos in Death Stranding.

According to Famitsu, Hideo Kojima really enjoyed the 2016 film Zootopia, and was immediately curious about how a sequel could possibly top it.
