Ninja has been playing ARC Raiders ever since its release, even getting involved in a competitive event with other streamers. He’s thoroughly explored the new extraction adventure game created by Embark Studios, which has quickly become a hit, drawing in hundreds of thousands of viewers on streaming platforms.
A well-known content creator, who first gained popularity playing games like Fortnite, shared his biggest concern about the upcoming game, ARC Raiders – what he believes could ultimately ruin it.
Don’t Make ARC Raiders Competitive
Ninja recently shared that adding competitive elements and tournaments to ARC Raiders would likely ruin the game. He explained that players would focus too much on optimizing every detail – often called ‘min-maxing’ – and become overly competitive, taking away from the fun.
Currently, this game offers a relaxed and easy-to-learn experience, with simple controls, a strong emphasis on playing with others, and battles that aren’t overly punishing.
Ninja worries that introducing competitive tournaments and the chance to earn money in ARC Raiders could make the game too difficult and discouraging for players who just enjoy it casually.
I really hope they never turn this game into a competition. It would ruin the fun if they started holding tournaments.
I want them to keep it as casual as possible.
The game currently has too many synchronization issues to be taken seriously as a competitive title, and it should probably stay that way.
Even something like fun competitions can happen. Take Escape from Tarkov, for example – they have tournaments, and while I’m not sure how they’re run, as soon as prize money is involved, people will start trying to optimize everything and become the very best. It just pushes players to focus on maximizing efficiency.
Introducing tournaments significantly speeds up players’ skill development in games, as seen with the rise of Fortnite.
Here’s the full clip:
Ninja hopes ARC Raiders stays a relaxed, casual game and doesn’t become competitive. He fears that adding tournaments or ranked play would drive players to improve too quickly, ultimately ruining the experience. He doesn’t want to see it follow the path of other games that became overly focused on competition.

Players like that ARC Raiders is easier to pick up than many similar games. While mastering the game takes skill, it feels like you can succeed with any weapon or strategy. Adding a rigid ‘best’ way to play or introducing ranked matches could discourage the casual players who currently enjoy its accessibility.
Embark Studios also created The Finals, a competitive shooter with a standard ranked system and exciting tournaments. Because the team is currently prioritizing building The Finals into a successful esports title, we probably won’t see official tournaments for ARC Raiders anytime soon.
