Players won’t receive the update Obsidian Entertainment originally planned for this year. Instead of releasing the new game plus mode this fall, the studio is holding it back for a larger update celebrating the RPG’s first anniversary in February. To compensate for the delay, the anniversary update will include some surprise additions alongside the features already announced.
The autumn update was planned as the third major content release for the game this year. The previous update, released in the summer, focused on improving the combat abilities of characters who don’t use magic, ensuring that everyone had a chance to shine alongside the wizards.
The development plans have changed. Obsidian has announced that the planned autumn update is cancelled, and instead they’re focusing on a bigger update scheduled for February, coinciding with the game’s anniversary. Features like New Game Plus, a photo mode, and a new weapon type, originally planned for this autumn, will now be released around February 18th.
Now that some time has passed, I’m looking forward to replaying Avowed, and I’m glad I can put it off until next year with a New Game Plus option, since December is always so busy. The upcoming photo mode is a great addition too, considering how beautiful Avowed’s environments are. However, they’ll have to fight me to get me to switch from my favorite arquebus – I’m sticking with it!
We’ve moved some character customization options from this year to our anniversary update. This includes letting you change how your characters look in the game, plus adding more pre-made options for characters and their unique, mystical features – those are the mushroom and wooden decorations you can add to your envoy to show their connection to nature and legend.
In addition to the features already revealed, Obsidian plans to include some unexpected extras in the anniversary update, making it the largest update for the game so far. There’s speculation about fun additions like a giant, wearable mushroom that could be used as a mount or thrown as a boomerang. Another possibility is a crossover with The Outer Worlds 2, where the game’s inhabitants might have to defend against a corporate invasion led by a surprisingly sympathetic figure.
