The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, titled Nightreign’s Forsaken Hollows, launches tomorrow, December 4th. Before players can explore the new Limveld area and play as the nightfarer classes, FromSoftware has released a large update.
Hey everyone, patch 1.03 just dropped and it’s a pretty good one! I’ve been checking out the notes, and it looks like the devs added a bunch of cool little features. Mostly, they’ve made the menus way easier to navigate – I can finally quickly see what relics I have equipped and how many flasks are left. They also fixed a bug where personal objectives were making it hard to team up, which is awesome. Oh, and they’ve tweaked and added to some of the shop inventories too, so there’s more to browse!
The biggest takeaway from the new patch is that FromSoftware didn’t directly adjust the Nightfarer class. Instead, they made general improvements to how passive abilities, special moves, and relic effects work. Specifically, melee attacks and quick dodging have been made stronger. On the downside, abilities that protect you when you’re almost defeated have been weakened, which will impact players who rely on avoiding damage rather than absorbing it.
Since Forsaken Hollows is meant to be a bit more challenging than the original game, it’s a good idea to switch to a classic, heavily armored strategy – focusing on strong attacks while prioritizing defense – if you want the best chance of surviving.
This update also includes the standard bug fixes. A particularly good fix addresses a problem where Sites of Grace or Churches wouldn’t activate, preventing players from leveling up or refilling their flasks. Another welcome change ensures that healing and buff effects now correctly apply to allies, even when they are dodging or using powerful attacks.
You can find complete details about this update here. Forsaken Hollows will be available on PC today, December 3rd, at 11 PM GMT (6 PM EST / 3 PM PST).
