Artist Says Bungie’s Marathon Plagiarism Issue has Been ‘Resolved to my Satisfaction’

So, there was this artist whose work was used in the old Bungie game, Marathon, without her permission. She’s saying that thankfully, the whole situation with Bungie and Sony – the people involved now – has been worked out and she’s happy with how it all ended. It’s good to hear they made things right!

The news arrived over six months after the artist first publicly stated on X (formerly Twitter) that Bungie had used her artwork from 2017 without her consent. She originally claimed that the recently released “Marathon alpha” included environments built using designs she created back in 2017.

Bungie quickly responded to reports about artwork appearing in the game that wasn’t theirs. They confirmed that a former employee had included the artwork in a texture used in the game.

Our art team wasn’t aware of this problem, and we’re looking into how it happened. We’re taking this very seriously and have contacted @4nt1r34l to resolve the issue and ensure the artist is treated fairly.

As a matter of policy, we do not use the work of artists without their permission.

To avoid these problems happening again, we’re carefully checking all artwork used in the game, especially pieces created by a previous Bungie artist. We’re also adding better tracking to make sure we have a clear record of who created each asset.

We appreciate the hard work and talent of all the artists who help create our games, and we’re dedicated to ensuring they are treated fairly. We’re grateful you let us know about this.

I’m so relieved to hear that the whole situation with the ‘Marathon’ artwork is finally sorted out! The artist just announced that they’ve reached a resolution with both Bungie and Sony that they’re happy with, which is fantastic news. It’s been a stressful time, but it’s great to see everyone working things out.

Whether the problem was fully fixed remains unknown, but Sony and Bungie appear to have made significant efforts to make sure the artist was fairly paid and came to a resolution.

Bungie’s Marathon is scheduled to release by the end of this fiscal year (by April 1st, 2026).

TopMob also has the latest on a new Fortnite leak revealing a South Park collaboration, and news about Metroid Prime 4, which is receiving some negative reviews compared to other games in the series.
