Similar to past Metroid games, Samus will lose most of her abilities and upgrades shortly after the game begins. Once you arrive in Fury Green, the first large area, you’ll encounter obstacles blocked by Viewros Amber.
If you want to destroy the Viewros Amber and similar obstacles in Metroid Prime 4, you’ll need a weapon with explosive power – and Samus’ Missile Launcher fits the bill. You started the game with it, but you’ll have to locate it again to blast through these barriers.
This guide explains how to regain use of the Missile Launcher in Metroid Prime 4, allowing you to destroy Viewros Amber and unlock hidden upgrades.
How to Get Your Missile Launcher Back to Use ‘Explosive Force’ in Metroid Prime 4
In Metroid Prime 4, players who want to get their Missile Launcher back need to find and assist Myles, a Galactic Federation member. As you explore Fury Green and reach the Grove of the Sacred Tree, a message will appear indicating a distress signal has been detected.
Open your map to find a marker showing where to find a helpful character in the Sinkhole area. You can’t miss it, but we’ll guide you there if you need help getting your bearings.
Start at the Sacred Tree Grove and roll southwest with your Morph Ball to find a small opening. Follow the path forward until you reach Myles, who is stuck on top of a ship. Begin shooting the plants holding the ship up, but be prepared – enemies will quickly appear and attack Samus! Defeat them, then continue freeing Myles until he’s safely on the ground.
After you rescue him, the back of the ship will open up, giving you access to the Missile Launcher. It’s located near some boxes. Press R to fire a missile that automatically tracks its target. Remember, the missiles use ammo, so use them strategically!
Now you’ll be able to break the Viewros Amber and continue progressing Samus’ story.
