This article contains possible spoilers for Pokemon Gen 10
Recent leaks have revealed details about the next generation of Pokémon games (Gen 10), including information about how players will travel and a new image. Surprisingly, several features, including some similar to those found in massively multiplayer online games, appear to have been cut from the final product. These leaks follow a large data drop last year, leading many to believe future Pokémon game details would remain secret. However, new information began appearing online in early October. Because these leaks come from the same source and include official documents from GameFreak’s internal plans, it seems many aspects of the upcoming games are already known.
We don’t yet know what the starter Pokémon will be in Generation 10, as leaks so far have only hinted at how players will initially receive their first Pokémon. However, other interesting information has leaked, such as:
- Pokemon Wind and Wave are the titles for Gen 10.
- Pokemon Gen 10’s box Legendaries are like a grandpa (Wind) and grandma (Wave).
- The main themes are “infinity,” exploration, and survival.
- The region is an archipelago inspired by Southeast Asia and Indonesia, not Greece.
- “Seed Pokemon” — allegedly, a Pokemon with procedurally generated patterns.
- Weather Moves are the new battle gimmick.
- Gen 10 is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.
- All Pokemon can be petted or ridden.
- All Pokemon will receive new models.
- Procedurally generated islands for Gen 10’s setting.
- Pokemon Gen 10’s map leaked online.
- MMO-like features.
Even though these leaks seemed reliable – they were part of the initial pitch for the next generation of Pokémon games – the current version of the games has changed a lot. The rumored title, Pokémon Wind and Wave, hasn’t been confirmed, and some of the earlier information might not be accurate anymore.
Take a First Look at Pokemon Gen 10’s Ride Mechanic
A new image leaked online appears to show a feature from the upcoming Generation 10 Pokémon games: a Rotom Scooter, similar to the Rotom Bike from Generation 8. This scooter will likely allow players to quickly travel across the game world on land. Interestingly, it can connect to certain Pokémon using an “energy leash,” granting the scooter abilities based on the Pokémon it’s linked to. For example, connecting a Flying-type Pokémon would allow the scooter to fly, while a Water-type Pokémon would let it travel on water or even dive underwater.
Furthermore, earlier reports about the upcoming Pokémon Generation 10 seem to be outdated, as the game’s features and overall design have apparently evolved. According to CentroLeaks:
- Pokemon Gen 10 was originally made of exploration, MMO-like mechanics, and procedural generation.
- Procedural generation was cut and made into a separate project that was also scrapped later, and from which Pokopia was born.
- MMO-like features have seemingly also been scrapped from Gen 10 and made into a separate project, which is the previously leaked MMO spanning all regions from Gen 1 through Gen 4.
- Pokemon Gen 10’s ride mechanic won’t be available for all Pokemon, like previously stated, and Pokemon themselves won’t be ridden.
- No mention of the ability to pet all Pokemon has been made.
- Pokemon Gen 10’s leaked build includes a bag pocket for Mega Stones, indicating that Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Evolutions may return outside of Pokemon Champions. No Mega Stones were in the build, though.
Right now, it’s hard to say exactly what’s different in the new game, but the location, titles, and basic gameplay – including Weather Moves and being exclusive to the Switch 2 – are expected to remain the same. According to leaks, traditional Gyms won’t be included, and players might even be able to face the final boss and finish the game very early on, right after the first island. However, features like randomly generated islands, the rumored “Seed Pokemon,” and any massively multiplayer online elements won’t be available in this version.
