Although other games grabbed more attention this year, Monster Hunter Wilds recently won two awards at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2025 Japan Asia. During the awards ceremony, the game’s director, Ryozo Tsujimoto, expressed his confidence in the continued popularity of the Monster Hunter series and stated he believes there’s no reason to end the franchise.
We definitely aren’t finished with the Monster Hunter series,” said Tsujimoto in an interview with IGN. “We’re planning to keep it going and reach an even wider audience. Plus, we’re exploring options beyond just video games to really expand the Monster Hunter universe.”
I was really excited when I heard about the Monster Hunter movie back in 2020 – Paul W. S. Anderson directed it, and Milla Jovovich starred, you know, the team behind the Resident Evil films. Sadly, it didn’t do very well at the box office, only making around $47.9 million worldwide. It’s a shame, because it looks like that means we probably won’t be getting a sequel, which is really disappointing.
I was hoping for news about the next Monster Hunter game, but Tsujimoto didn’t really say anything new about that. He did reassure us that they’re still planning on supporting Monster Hunter Wilds with updates, which is good to hear!
According to Ryozo Tsujimoto, Monster Hunter is a game designed to be continually improved with updates, and player feedback has been crucial to that process. He stated that fan input is a driving force behind making Monster Hunter Wilds the best it can be, and the team is committed to continuing that work with future updates.
In an April discussion with investors, Capcom suggested that initial sales of Monster Hunter Wild declined because the PlayStation 5 console is expensive. Capcom also recently collaborated with Final Fantasy 16, adding FF16-themed weapons, monsters, and other content to Monster Hunter.
