World of Warcraft Quietly Makes Leveling About 80% Faster

In Patch 11.2.7, Blizzard significantly reduced the experience needed to level up from 70 to 80 in World of Warcraft – by about 80%, in fact! While this change wasn’t listed in the official patch notes, players will find it much faster to reach level 80 now.

The latest update to World of Warcraft, patch 11.2.7, is now available! It includes new content like the beginning of a story for the upcoming Midnight expansion, a new Lorewalking chapter focusing on the elves of Quel’Thalas, and a quest to earn Pandaren Heritage Armor. However, many players are most excited about the early access release of Player Housing.

Leveling Experience from 70 to 80 Reduced in WoW Patch 11.2.7

A recent, unannounced change in World of Warcraft Patch 11.2.7 has dramatically sped up leveling. While not listed in the official patch notes, the experience needed to gain levels from 70 onward has been significantly reduced. This reduction isn’t consistent – it gets larger at each level, starting at around 74% less experience needed at level 70 and increasing to 83% by level 79. This makes reaching the current level cap much faster and easier, especially for the final ten levels.

This update was likely made to prepare for the release of Midnight. The new expansion will raise the maximum character level, and based on the beta test, it’s expected to take World of Warcraft players around 11 hours to level up from 80 to 90.

It’s not unusual for experience requirements to be lowered before a new expansion launches, but this change is still unexpected so early, with roughly three months still to go before Midnight releases. The new World of Warcraft expansion is scheduled for March 2nd, and most players anticipated this type of adjustment during the Pre-Patch, probably around January 20th. Essentially, this gives players almost two extra months to get their characters ready for the next part of their World of Warcraft journey.

Best Ways to Hit Level 80 Before World of Warcraft: Midnight

The recent changes have made leveling up in World of Warcraft even faster! The Legion Remix event, running until January 19th, offers players up to a 400% experience bonus. Reaching level 70 and speaking with Moratari adds an extra 250% bonus, bringing the total to 650% before any other bonuses are applied. Originally designed to help with high-level experience costs, the reduction now means completing just one Legion Remix quest after level 70 can allow a player to gain two or more levels quickly.

Besides Legion Remix, there are many good ways to quickly gain levels in World of Warcraft right now. The game’s 21st anniversary event, running until December 7th, offers a 20% experience boost that combines with other bonuses. By simply logging in each day and answering a trivia question from Historian Llore or Ju’pa, players can earn enough experience to gain almost half a level – and also collect a few Timewarped Badges!

If you’re still looking for ways to level up quickly, a new event called Turbulent Timeways has started in World of Warcraft with Patch 11.2.7. Completing four Timewalking dungeons will give you the Mastery of the Timeways buff, which boosts experience gains by another 30%. You can keep refreshing this buff by completing more dungeons. With the reduced experience requirements and all the other ways to earn XP, players should be able to easily level up multiple characters before the Midnight expansion arrives.
