Sylux first appeared in Metroid Prime Hunters and made a quick cameo in the ending of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Now, he’s the central villain in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. He’s introduced in the game’s opening and appears several times throughout the story.
You’ll fight Sylux again during the Volt Forge area, not long after powering up Tower 2. The fight starts easily enough, but gets tricky when Sylux starts his green spinning attack – Samus’s beams and missiles won’t affect him during this move. Luckily, there’s a way to defend against it.
How to Beat Sylux at the Volt Forge
The beginning of the fight with Sylux is fairly simple – just jump over the green waves and move side to side to dodge his close-range attacks, all while shooting him with charged shots and missiles. But when his health drops to around 75%, he’ll start a continuous green spinning attack that can’t be damaged with beams or missiles.
During the fight, Sylux will start spinning. To stop him, you need to hit him with a Psychic Bomb. Switch to Morph Ball mode by pressing Y, then press A to drop the bomb. After taking a few hits, Sylux will return to his normal attacks, but he’ll occasionally spin again. Just use more Psychic Bombs to interrupt him and then continue attacking with your regular blasts.
Sylux is very quick during his spin attack, making his movements difficult to anticipate. To hit him more easily, players should stick to the edges of the arena and move in a circle, dropping bombs whenever he comes close or seems ready to use his zip attack.
Once you defeat Sylux, you’ll discover he was actually a projection using a standard robot. Don’t worry, the fight wasn’t a waste of time! You’ll receive an Energy Tank as a reward, which increases Samus’ maximum health by 100 – a helpful boost for the challenging battles ahead.
