Key Takeaways

  • Trademarking of “White Flare” and “Black Bolt” hint at a Black and White Pokémon remake.

As a lifelong Pokémon enthusiast who has been following this franchise since the days of Red and Blue, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement at the latest rumors circulating about the potential remake of Pokémon Black and White.

Yesterday, it was revealed that the teams of Game Freak, Nintendo, and Creatures filed trademarks for the names “White Flare”, “Black Bolt”, and “Hot Air Arena”.

Word spread quickly throughout the community, suggesting that a revamped version of Pokémon Black and White could be coming soon.

This news isn’t anything new; we’ve been receiving rumors about the potential remake for quite a while now.

Enthusiasts of gaming often come up with elaborate ideas as soon as a fresh addition is made to the Pokémon series. Even slight changes, such as introducing a new Pokémon or character, can spark widespread theories across the internet.

To put it straight from the heart, there have been moments when I, along with the DualShocker team, have undeniably fueled the excitement a tad excessively. We’re just so passionate about what we’re anticipating.

Is Black/White Really On The Horizon?

All of this might sound like a coincidence for those disengaged from the Pokemon TCG scene.

In looking at past releases of Pokémon, it becomes clear that Nintendo often grants licenses for specific characters, attacks, and Pokémon around six to eight months prior to a new launch.

The Battle Partners collection, officially trademarked in July, is scheduled for launch on January 24th, 2025.

Just as the process applied to “The Glory of Team Rocket” branding, it wasn’t long before a comeback sneak peek for Team Rocket was shared.

The elephant in the room is the use of the words black and white in “White Flare” and “Black Bolt.” There’s also an indication these might be related to the legendary pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom.

It’s quite unusual, but the timing that Nintendo is creating sets for these specific dragon types right now seems to suggest something beyond mere coincidence.

Regarding the “Hot Air Arena”, it’s worth noting that there seems to be a link between this location and Volcarona’s Heat Wave Ability. This could potentially be connected to the Heat Wave Arena, which is quite close by.

Contrarily, none of these names seem connected to Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Given this, it’s possible that, if Black and White are released, they might appear towards the end of 2025 instead.
