As a die-hard Alien franchise fan who has been through the highs (Alien and Aliens) and the lows (Alien 3, Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant), I can wholeheartedly say that Alien: Romulus has brought a breath of fresh air to this long-running series. The nostalgia it evokes, coupled with its thrilling adventure and fan-service, has reignited my passion for the franchise.

For the past three decades, the Alien franchise has been a rollercoaster ride for me as a gamer. The original Alien was an absolute game-changer in cinema, and Aliens, led by James Cameron, came incredibly close to matching its greatness. However, 1992’s Alien 3 signaled the beginning of a decline for this Sci-Fi series. Even Ridley Scott’s return to the helm didn’t prevent Alien from faltering, with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant receiving mediocre reviews. But then came Alien: Romulus, a breath of fresh air that reinvigorated my interest in this franchise.

Recently debuted in cinemas, “Alien: Romulus” has brought a refreshing twist to the established series. By combining the most captivating elements of both “Alien” and “Aliens“, it’s crafted an exhilarating tale filled with nods to fans, while still offering a unique and chilling adventure. It’s safe to say that “Alien: Romulus” has reignited the passion of many fans for the “Alien” saga, and if they crave more nostalgia tinged with terror, they might want to focus on “Dead by Daylight“.

Dead by Daylight Has a Whole Alien Chapter Ready and Waiting

Approximately a year has passed since its release, and the 29th installment for the game Dead by Daylight is centered around the Alien series. As a complete Chapter, this paid downloadable content includes a fresh Killer character, Survivor, various themed accessories, and even an entire map inspired by Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien film.

Starring as the Deadly Creature in the DLC, the Xenomorph delivered a devastating blow at its debut with its swift Tail Strike special move, and it could burrow underground to trace Survivors by following their footprints and swiftly reach generator locations across the map. To counter this powerful Crawler Mode, Survivors can strategically place Remote Flame Turrets in crucial areas of the map.

As a diehard fan, I must say that while the Xenomorph did steal the limelight in the Alien saga, the Dead by Daylight crossover DLC didn’t let Ellen Ripley, portrayed brilliantly by Sigourney Weaver, fade into the background. This terrifying collaboration introduced Ripley as a Survivor to the horror game, albeit not the most formidable in its history. Nevertheless, she brought along some fantastic Perks, with the Chemical Trap Perk being one of them. This clever trap lets her impose the Hindered status effect on any Killer who dares to destroy a pallet with the trap in place.

Another key highlight of Dead by Daylight‘s Alien Chapter is its Nostromo Wreckage map, which can be enjoyed by all players regardless of whether they own the DLC or not. As the name implies, this map has players running through the wreckage of the first Alien‘s iconic cargo ship, which has crash-landed on an unknown alien planet that closely resembles LV-426. This map is packed with references, including steam pipe traps, Facehugger jump-scares, and Ripley’s cat Jonesy hiding in a locker.

Dead by Daylight Has Just Added Alien: Romulus Content

To further enhance the extraterrestrial theme, the survival horror game Dead by Daylight has introduced a fresh cosmetic inspired by the recent Alien: Romulus release. This new Legendary costume dramatically transforms Ellen Ripley’s appearance in Dead by Daylight, making her resemble Cailee Spaeny’s character Rain Carradine from Alien: Romulus. The new look features Spaeny’s likeness and includes the outfit she wore in the movie, which consists of a Weyland-Yutani work shirt and cargo pants.
