Star Wars Outlaws Open-World May Put Jedi Series in a Tough Spot

Star Wars Outlaws Open-World May Put Jedi Series in a Tough Spot

As a die-hard Star Wars fan who has been eagerly awaiting an open-world adventure set in this galaxy far, far away for years, let me tell you that my dreams have finally come true with Star Wars Outlaws. While other games have given us tantalizing glimpses of iconic locations, nothing compares to the freedom and immersion provided by this game.

At long last, after years of anticipation, Star Wars enthusiasts can finally immerse themselves in an open-world escapade through the release of Star Wars Outlaws. Although previous Star Wars games have allowed them to traverse some iconic locales, nothing quite matches up to Ubisoft’s vision for Star Wars Outlaws. Granted, it may not be flawless, but the expansive open-world environments certainly justify the cost of entry.

In the game Star Wars Outlaws, players have been granted the chance to traverse renowned settings such as Tatooine, creating a memorable adventure that upcoming Star Wars games could find challenging to match. For instance, the much-anticipated Star Wars Jedi 3 may struggle in comparison. This is because, although Respawn has designed thrilling realms to navigate, they haven’t previously created anything quite like this. Given that players have now been given creative freedom, they might not desire to return to other gaming experiences.

Star Wars Outlaws Has Finally Given Players the Galaxy

Star Wars Outlaws Showed Fans What an Open-World Star Wars Game Can Be

As soon as Star Wars Outlaws gets underway, players are assured of an extraordinary experience. Instead of focusing on lightsabers and the Force, this game immerses you in the smuggler’s lifestyle, and there are numerous worlds to delve into. Specifically, players will encounter five distinct planets, four of which feature expansive open-world maps. The journey commences on Cantonica, also known as Kay Vess’ homeland and the site of Canto Bight. Subsequently, they venture to Toshara, Tatooine, Akiva, and Kijimi. Each planet is meticulously crafted, brimming with treasures to unearth and tales yet untold.

In the realm of gaming, I’ve been blown away by the breathtaking worlds Massive Entertainment has crafted, each one seeming plucked right from the silver screen of Star Wars. Fans are already scouring these digital galaxies for their beloved locales from the expansive Star Wars media, and this enthusiasm could potentially pave the way for more Star Wars games to follow suit. The tantalizing glimpse into an open-world Star Wars adventure has sparked interest, suggesting there might be a growing demand for larger-scale experiences. This could be a sign that it’s high time for Star Wars Jedi to aim even bigger.

Star Wars Jedi 3 May Need to Go Big

The Star Wars Jedi series has been extremely popular, with many looking forward to what comes next for Cal Kestis. Respawn has built an exciting Soulslike combat system, the Metroidvania-like worlds have been fun to traverse, and the story has been fantastic so far. However, unlike Star Wars Outlaws, they are also far more constrained.

In the universes created by Respawn for the game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the sizes are somewhat constrained, allowing players to explore just small pieces of these vast worlds. Only Koboh from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor seems expansive compared to typical video game levels. Although this setup has proven effective, the open-world style of Star Wars Outlaws could necessitate larger playable areas in future Star Wars Jedi games. While they don’t need to be as large as what Ubisoft offers, given the newfound freedom players have experienced, it might be challenging to revert back.

That said, there’s still value in that style of game. For years, Star Wars fans have been treated to a wide variety of experiences, with no two feeling alike. There is seemingly no reason that will change now, so Star Wars Outlaws’ and Star Wars Jedi‘s approach may be able to coexist without much issue. However, even if that is the case, Respawn may still want to take some inspiration from Ubisoft, and vice versa. Even if the games are different in gameplay, they could still build off each other to deliver the galaxy far, far away in all its magnificent detail.
