Chaos Manufacturing revealed SOL Shogunate, a single-player action game that combines samurai themes with a space opera setting. The game, currently in development for PC and consoles, shares some visual similarities with Stellar Blade.
Chaos Manufacturing is a newly formed game studio led by Guy Costantini, who previously held leadership positions at CD Projekt Red and Skydance Interactive. The studio announced its first game, SOL Shogunate, during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted on December 4th, 2025 – one of the last major gaming events of the year.
SOL Shogunate Reveal Trailer Shows Flashy Astro-Feudal Setting
The game’s first trailer showcases a unique world that mixes futuristic technology with traditional Japanese culture. The ruling shogunate isn’t limited to Earth – it’s a powerful empire that extends across the solar system, even including a colonized moon where much of the game will take place. About halfway through the trailer, a huge, wheel-shaped space station comes into view. This station, which creates artificial gravity by spinning, is inspired by a NASA design called the Stanford torus and is reminiscent of the space station in the movie Elysium, but with a distinctly Japanese look, including cherry blossom imagery.
SOL Shogunate Tells a Tale of Revenge
SOL Shogunate is fundamentally a revenge story. Players take on the role of Yuzuki, the last surviving member of a once-great samurai family who were brutally attacked by enemies. She’s on a mission to track down those responsible and exact her vengeance. Along the way, she’ll battle a diverse range of opponents, including both humans and robots – the reveal trailer even shows a massive robotic spider as a challenging boss.
SOL Shogunate Promises Choice-Rich Combat, Dynamic Music, and More
SOL Shogunate shares some similarities with Stellar Blade, featuring a sci-fi world, third-person gameplay, and action-packed combat with RPG elements, all centered around a female protagonist who fights with a sword. While it’s too soon to say how closely the two games compare beyond these basics, SOL Shogunate seems to focus more on fast-paced, skill-based action than the challenging, methodical combat of a “soulslike” game. Players control Yuzuki, who can switch between different weapons, each with unique attacks, and add elemental effects to suit the situation. The game also includes a skill tree where players can unlock new offensive and defensive abilities, as well as helpful improvements like enhanced vision.
Players can expect a good amount of customization in how they build their character, but the fast-paced action will remain central no matter what weapons or upgrades they choose. The game will also feature music that changes based on what’s happening on screen, especially during challenging boss battles where players need to find and take advantage of enemy weaknesses. The first musical artist confirmed for the game’s soundtrack is the Japanese pop rock band AliA, and more artists will be revealed later. Finally, the game will let players explore the moon’s surface using both a mechanical horse and a monocycle.
SOL Shogunate Availability Details Are Slim
There’s currently no confirmed release date for SOL Shogunate. Game Rant’s research, including information from Chaos Manufacturing’s websites and CEO Guy Costantini’s LinkedIn profile, indicates the game has been in development since around 2023. Considering most large-scale games take about five years to create, a release isn’t expected anytime soon, and the lack of public information supports this. Chaos Manufacturing has stated the game is planned for both PC and consoles, but so far, it’s only listed on Steam, and the specific consoles haven’t been announced.
