Leaks and data found within Pokemon Legends: Z-A suggest the upcoming DLC will include 19 new Mega Evolutions, with six already revealed. Since these revealed forms were part of the original leak, it’s likely the remaining predictions are accurate too. The DLC will also bring back some Mega Evolutions from the Pokemon X and Y generation that weren’t available in the base game, giving players a wide variety of strong options for their teams. These 8 Pokemon are expected to be top-tier choices for competitive ranked battles when the DLC releases.

This list focuses on Pokemon that are generally easier to obtain and doesn’t include very rare and powerful Legendary or Mythical Pokemon.

8. 8 – Glimmora

Glimmora from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a really well-designed Pokemon, both in terms of its overall concept and how it plays in battle. While its 4x weakness to Ground-type attacks could be a problem in Pokemon Legends: Z-A because of common strong Pokemon like Garchomp, Zygarde, and Excadrill, Glimmora excels at battling many other types. It’s particularly effective against Fairy, Fire, Grass, Ice, Flying, and Bug Pokemon, even using moves that take advantage of its own typing. Glimmora is also fairly durable and boasts a high Special Attack stat. Plus, it’s getting a Mega Evolution in the upcoming DLC!

7. 7 – Golurk

Golurk is surprisingly strong, boasting high Attack power and reasonable HP and defenses. In a game like Pokemon Legends: Z-A where speed isn’t everything, this makes it a formidable opponent. As a Ground-type, it learns powerful moves like Earthquake, and its Ghost-typing gives it a key advantage against popular Pokemon like Mewtwo. Plus, recent leaks suggest Golurk will even receive a Mega Evolution in the upcoming Mega Dimension DLC, making it even more powerful.

6. 6 – Annihilape

Annihilape is a new evolution of Primeape, introduced in the latest Pokémon games. It’s incredibly powerful, boasting a high base stat total of 535, with a particularly strong focus on physical attack. Annihilape only has a few weaknesses (four, to be exact) compared to its resistances (three) and immunities (two), making it a strong choice for both the story mode and competitive battles. As a Fighting and Ghost type, it can learn powerful moves that are super effective against many common Pokémon, including Excadrill, Metagross, Delphox, Chandelure, and Mega Gyarados.

5. 5 – Sceptile

Sceptile is a well-liked Pokémon, especially since it’s one of the starting Pokémon from the Hoenn region. As a Grass-type, it’s naturally resistant to Electric and Ground attacks, making it a useful Pokémon to switch into battle when those types of moves are expected. What really sets it apart is its ability to Mega Evolve. When it does, it becomes Grass and Dragon-type, which lets it easily handle powerful Pokémon like Garchomp and Zygarde. However, be careful of Ice-type attacks! Mega Sceptile is extremely weak to Ice, so Pokémon like Vaporeon and Glaceon, featured in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, can cause serious damage.

4. 4 – Golisopod

Golisopod might not be the first Pokémon that comes to mind, but it’s surprisingly durable with strong defenses. Its Water and Bug typing gives it few weaknesses – only Flying, Electric, and Rock – and a good number of resistances. Because Water is a powerful attacking type and Bug can hit Psychic and Dark types hard, Golisopod could become a popular choice. Plus, leaks suggest it’s one of the nineteen Pokémon getting a new Mega Evolution in the upcoming DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

3. 3 – Overqwil

Overqwil, a Pokémon that returns from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, is expected to be a powerful competitor in the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A meta. As a Dark/Poison type, it has a beneficial type matchup, being weak to Ground but resistant to Grass, Poison, Ghost, and Dark, and completely immune to Psychic attacks. This makes it a strong counter against powerful Pokémon like Mewtwo and Xerneas. With naturally high stats, Overqwil could be even more effective as an attacker when equipped with items like the Expert Belt or Life Orb.

2. 2 – Baxcalibur

Mega Baxcalibur in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is predicted to be one of the most powerful Pokemon in the game, and potentially in the entire series. Like other pseudo-Legendary Pokemon, it has a total base stat of 600, but its stats are already well-balanced, with a lower Special Attack and Speed. Unless its Mega Evolution drastically changes its attacking style, it’s likely to have the highest Attack stat in the game, or even in all Pokemon games. The Dragon/Ice typing is excellent for dealing damage, and while it leaves Baxcalibur vulnerable to Pokemon like Metagross, Xerneas, and other Dragons, it also benefits from powerful STAB Ice-type moves.

1. 1 – Porygon2

When the Mega Dimension DLC releases for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Porygon2 is shaping up to be incredibly powerful, which won’t surprise competitive players. While it can evolve into Porygon-Z, that form is generally weaker. Porygon2 boasts a strong base stat total of 515 and can hold Eviolite, a combination that has consistently proven successful in tournaments, even in recent generations. It has access to many powerful special attacks and, as a Normal-type, is only weak to Fighting while being completely immune to Ghost-type moves. What really sets it apart in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is that Hyper Beam is a usable move, and Porygon2 can use it with a damage boost thanks to its typing, potentially defeating most opponents in a single hit.
