How to Exit Volt Forge & Where to Go Next in Metroid Prime 4

Fans of the Metroid series are familiar with its open-ended gameplay, letting you explore and choose your own path. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond continues this tradition after you finish the Volt Forge, the game’s second major area. Once you unlock the Vi-O-La motorcycle, you’ll leave the complex towers of the Forge and enter Sol Valley, a large, open desert. This desert serves as a central location to access several important dungeons. This guide will explain how to leave Volt Forge and where to head next.

How to Exit Volt Forge in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Retrace Your Steps:

After you defeat Xelios in Volt Forge, go back to the elevator you used to come down through the Test Circuits. Ride the elevator back up to the Test Circuit Security level. You’ll be back in the area you first entered.

You have two choices for continuing with Vi-O-La. Check the signs above the gates to find the correct way – you need the path labeled “Tower 3 to Tower 1.” This will lead you back to the tower where you started. Once you’re in the main courtyard, you’ll see the Vi-O-La spinner station, but it will be raised and blocked by a purple force field. This is where some players get confused, as figuring out what to do next isn’t obvious.

Look up and to the left while facing the exit. You’ll see a small platform where you can use your Morph Ball. Use your Psychic Boots to double-jump up to it. Then, use the bomb you found to destroy the force field blocking the platform. Once the force field is gone, use the spinner to open the exit.

You can now leave the Volt Forge and make your way onto what’s next.

Where to Go After Volt Forge in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Heat Things Up with the Fire Shot:

It’s best to hold off on going back to Fury Green until you get the Fire Chip from the Flare Pool dungeon. You’ll need to visit Fury Green with the Fire Chip eventually, and doing so then allows you to immediately use the powerful Fire Shot along with your new Psychic Boots and Bomb.

Okay, so you finally get out of the Volt Forge, and you’re in Sol Valley! It looks like you have a bunch of different things you could do, and places to go, but honestly, there’s really only one spot you need to hit up before you can progress to the next dungeons: Flare Pool. Seriously, you have to go there before anything else!

Flare Pool is a large dungeon filled with fire, located in the southeastern part of the map. You can’t explore everything right away because you need an upgrade to walk through lava. However, you can get the Fire Shot upgrade for your arm cannon before you go!

To begin, follow the main path in Flare Pool until you reach a bridge. Watching the scene that plays there will trigger a reversal – you’ll need to return the way you came. As you exit, you’ll see another scene showing a door that was previously locked is now open. After defeating the enemies that come out, follow the path through this newly opened door to reach the end.

Follow the path until you reach a large crane with a red light on its end. Use the platforms to climb onto the crane, then switch to your Morph Ball to navigate to the very tip. Drop a bomb to make the glowing item fall. Grab the Fire Chip, and then exit Flare Pool by retracing your steps.

After you exit Flare Pool, Myles will contact you and ask you to return to the starting area. Go back to Fury Green and use the Cargo Launcher to quickly travel to the far side of the dungeon – it’s the closest point to home base. Once you’re there, Myles will use the Fire Chip to unlock the new Fire Shot ability.

Okay, so once I finally got the Fire Shot – that’s the first of the cool elemental weapons – I was able to head over to the Ice Belt, which is in the northwest part of Sol Valley. It also opened up Fury Green for me, and I could finally grab a bunch of stuff that was blocked off before. It’s awesome!
