Over the past few days, Nintendo has been making headlines due to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct and the recently concluded (and last) Switch Direct. The lineup of upcoming games looks promising, and the upcoming hardware launch seems imminent, sparking excitement among fans globally.
Lately, observant gamers have spotted a hint about upcoming titles from Nintendo, which they’ve labeled as ‘Switch 2 Edition’ games. This clue was uncovered on an authentic Nintendo website, leading many to speculate that remastered versions or re-released games might be imminent.
Enhance It
A new term, “Switch 2 Edition games,” was introduced on Nintendo’s dedicated webpage explaining how their new ‘virtual game cards’ function. This term appeared in a legal disclaimer hidden towards the bottom of the page, sparking much excitement and speculation among fans about the potential release of a second version of the Nintendo Switch.
For using virtual game cards on a Nintendo System, it’s essential to connect them to your Nintendo Account. Exclusive games for the new Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can only run on the Nintendo Switch 2 console. To transfer virtual game cards between two systems, they need to be paired initially via local wireless and an internet connection. However, this pairing can only happen once for each system, and a maximum of two systems can be connected per Nintendo Account.

Distinguishing between basic Switch 2 games and Switch 2 Editions games ignites my imagination with possibilities of upgraded versions or re-releases, a scenario that isn’t too unrealistic. Historically, consoles like PlayStation and Xbox have followed similar paths when new hardware generations emerge.
People are wondering now about how the new editions of games for the Switch might work. Will these be free updates for those who’ve already bought the game on the Nintendo Switch, or will they come at an additional cost, offering new features as well?
It’s hard to tell, but I’m willing to bet it’d be the latter option.
We’ll likely know more on April 2 when the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct takes place.
