Silent Road is a new horror game coming to Steam. It puts you in the role of a taxi driver working in a secluded, forested area of Japan known for being a frequent site of suicides. The game’s atmosphere is reminiscent of the more controversial recent entries in the Fatal Frame series, and it’s currently planned for release in 2026.
Endflame, an indie game studio from Catalonia, Spain, recently released Silent Road. The studio was founded in 2019 and first gained attention with Ikai, a 2022 psychological horror game set in feudal Japan. Ikai featured a priestess haunted by her past, and while reviews were somewhat mixed, it’s become known as a truly frightening modern horror game, particularly for its use of Japanese folklore, focus on making the player feel vulnerable, and creative monster designs.
Silent Road Turns Night-Shift Taxi Driving Into Nightmare Fuel
Endflame is trying its hand at a Japanese horror game again, but this time it’s set in the present day. Their new game, Silent Road, puts you in the role of a taxi driver working in a spooky forest area that’s based on Aokigahara, often called the “Suicide Forest.” This forest was also the setting for the 2014 survival horror game Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. You’ll mainly drive around, but you can get out to help passengers, though the developers warn that it won’t be safe to do so.
I’m really intrigued by Silent Road! From what I’ve read, you basically drive people through these lonely, foggy places, and each trip feels like you’re getting to know them – and uncovering a mystery at the same time. It sounds like the game reveals the story through little chats, choices about where to stop, and just the atmosphere around you. What’s cool is the developers can easily add more to it, like passengers you see again who start acting really strange, building up the creepiness. That’s what I loved about Ikai – how it took a normal setting and slowly turned it into something genuinely scary, and it sounds like Silent Road is aiming for that same feeling.
The recent teaser for Endflame’s Silent Road is a 34-second clip of gameplay, edited with quick cuts to build suspense. It shifts between unsettling and frightening scenes, including one jump scare featuring a ghost seen in the game’s artwork. If the teaser is any indication, Silent Road will focus on creating a creepy atmosphere through suggestion and psychological horror, rather than relying on gore or flashy effects. The game seems designed to leave gaps for players to fill with their own imaginations, enhancing the overall sense of dread.
Laura Ripoll and Guillem Travila, the founders of Endflame, have always been fans of Japanese horror – its slow-building suspense, immersive atmosphere, and lasting impact. Their new game, Silent Road, is a direct result of that passion. They describe it as a genuinely scary experience inspired by J-horror, with a hidden, more profound layer to its story.
We’ve always been fascinated by Japanese horror – its subtle suspense, haunting atmosphere, and lasting impact. That fascination is what inspired Silent Road.
The psychological horror game Silent Road is planned to release in 2026, though the developers, Endflame, haven’t announced a specific date yet. A demo is coming soon to the game’s newly launched Steam page, where you can now add it to your wishlist. Currently, Silent Road is only confirmed for PC. Considering Endflame’s history, there are no plans for versions on other platforms at this time. This will be Endflame’s third game, following Ikai and the cozy puzzle game Instants, which was released on Steam in June 2025.
