Bungie Nerfs Popular Destiny 2 Renegades Farming Spot

Bungie has temporarily made it costly to buy items from vendors at the Tharsis Outpost while they develop a lasting solution for a popular farming location in Destiny 2. Overall, players are enjoying the new expansion, which includes fully licensed content that isn’t part of the Star Wars universe. Despite this, players have been able to discover and explore the new areas and content, and have even found a helpful glitch during their adventures in Destiny 2.

Tharsis Outpost is the new social hub in Destiny 2‘s Renegade expansion, designed to feel like a classic Star Wars cantina, similar to the one in Mos Eisley. Players can meet with different factions, reconnect with Spider, accept quests, and buy new items from vendors. Recently, players have discovered a simple and affordable way to get powerful, though unpredictable, gear.

Destiny 2 Junk Vendors Are Now Wildly More Expensive

In addition to visiting the three Renegade Syndicate factions, players can spend their credits with a unique vendor found around the Tharsis Outpost. This Eliksni Dreg offers randomized loot – often called ‘junk’ – in exchange for 100 credits. While some items are purely cosmetic, like a miniature broom, players can also find valuable rewards such as a Refraction Core, which is needed to upgrade the Praxic Blade.

Players discovered armor sets, ranging from Tier 3 to Tier 5, were dropping with unusual and potentially unintended stat combinations – often featuring two unexpected boosts at once. To address this and ensure fairness for the upcoming Equilibrium dungeon race, Bungie has significantly increased the cost of purchasing from these vendors to 7,777,777 credits, an amount that is currently unaffordable for almost all players. This high price will stay in effect until a permanent solution is implemented.

Players are largely unhappy with a recent change, criticizing Bungie for taking away an enjoyable feature. Many are disappointed they can no longer easily earn the Refraction Core needed for the Praxic Blade exotic sword – it used to have a chance of appearing after purchases at the salvage exchange. Beyond concerns about incorrect stats on some armor, players also worry that the new armor can drop in large quantities, quickly filling up their in-game storage (the Postmaster) and causing them to lose other valuable items.

While the recent Destiny 2 Renegades update has been better received than previous content, player numbers are still declining, causing concern about the game’s future. Bungie has shared a short-term plan for Destiny 2, but long-term plans remain unclear. There’s ongoing speculation about Destiny 3 being in early development, but an official announcement is unlikely until after the 2026 release of Bungie’s Marathon to avoid overshadowing that launch.
