Well-known game designer Tim Cain is back working on a new project with Obsidian Entertainment. The two are already collaborating on a brand new game.
Tim Cain, a key figure behind the popular Fallout series and co-director of The Outer Worlds, recently came out of semi-retirement. He’s rejoined Obsidian Entertainment and is now working on a new mystery game.
Tim Cain Working On New Obsidian Entertainment Project That No One Will Guess
On December 5th, Cain shared an update on his YouTube channel about his game development progress and what he’s planning next.
I’ve returned to Obsidian as a full-time, in-person employee. I’m no longer working remotely or as a contractor.
Cain shared that he’s still connected to another upcoming game because of his current freelance work, but he’s now officially part of the Obsidian team. He couldn’t reveal details about this new project, saying it raises more questions than it answers.
I’m unable to discuss the project I’m currently working on at Obsidian due to a non-disclosure agreement. And honestly, you’d just be wasting your time trying to guess what it is!
I’m so excited to hear from Cain! He says he’s basically un-retired and is really diving headfirst into this new game – sounds like it’s going to be his main project from now on, which is awesome!

So, over the last decade, I’ve really enjoyed the two games Cain’s been involved with – The Outer Worlds and its sequel. Now he’s starting something new, and honestly, I’m super curious to see what it is! Given his background, I’m guessing it’ll probably be another RPG, but we’ll have to wait and see!
