In Metroid Prime 4, players once again experience the world through the eyes of Samus Aran, the renowned bounty hunter. This latest Metroid game also features exciting new amiibo figures that unlock special rewards, although some rewards aren’t immediately available.
This guide explains what you get when you use each Metroid amiibo figure in the game, including both the new ones for Metroid Prime 4 and older figures from previous Metroid games.
All Metroid Prime 4 Amiibo Unlocks & Rewards

Metroid Prime 4 launched with three game-specific amiibo:
- Samus Aran (Metroid Prime 4 Beyond)
- Samus and Vi-O-La (Metroid Prime 4 Beyond)
- Sylux (Metroid Prime 4 Beyond)
Samus Aran (Metroid Prime 4 Beyond) Amiibo Unlocks
If you scan the Samus Aran amiibo while playing Metroid Prime 4, you’ll receive an Energy Shield. This shield can only be used once each day, and the game will ask if you want to activate it after scanning. When used, the Energy Shield refills Samus’ energy and can protect against up to 99 damage.
Scanning the Samus Aran amiibo (for Metroid Prime 4) will unlock a jukebox feature you can use while riding your bike – but it’s only available after you finish the Volt Forge area. Scanning the amiibo will give you access to three unique music tracks.
- Vi-O-La Theme
- Volt Forge Theme
- Xelios Theme
Once you finish the game, you’ll get two new songs to listen to on the jukebox: the theme from Metroid Prime and the theme from Metroid Prime 4.
Samus and Vi-O-La (Metroid Prime 4 Beyond) Amiibo Unlocks
Scanning the Samus and Vi-O-La amiibo for Metroid Prime 4 will unlock a series of rewards:
- You will gain a once-per-day Boost Recovery for the bike, only usable in Sol Valley.
- You will also gain an odometer feature for Vi-O-La (also accessible after completing Volt Forge), which keeps track of your total distance travel on the bike.
- For every 50,000 meters you travel on Vi-O-La, you will unlock a new skin theme for the bike that changes its appearance, with the potential to unlock seven new skins for Vi-O-La (eight themes in total, including the default).
| Vi-O-La Skin Name | Distance Traveled to Unlock |
|---|---|
| Default Theme | N/A |
| Samus Varia Theme | 50,000m |
| Sylux Theme | 100,000m |
| Metroid Prime Theme | 150,000m |
| Space Pirate Theme | 200,000m |
| Ancient Theme | 250,000m |
| Psychic Era Theme | 300,000m |
| Vi-O-La Suit Theme | 350,000m |
Sylux (Metroid Prime 4 Beyond) Amiibo Unlocks
- Scanning the Sylux (Metroid Prime 4) amiibo will play random lines from the titular character.
- It will also unlock an extended cutscene that compiles all the game’s separate cutscenes into one video (accessed via the Gallery).
You can still unlock the extra cutscene by finishing the game completely, even without the Sylux amiibo. The amiibo just makes it happen faster.
All Metroid Series Amiibo Unlocks
As a big Metroid fan, I’m excited to hear that older amiibo figures will work with the new game too! They won’t unlock anything as cool as the rewards tied to the Metroid Prime 4 amiibo, but they’ll still give us some fun little surprises. Basically, if you scan any of the older Metroid amiibo, the game will play one of five classic Metroid sounds – it picks one at random each time, which is a neat touch!
- Dark Samus amiibo (Super Smash Bros. series)
- E.M.M.I. amiibo (Metroid Dread)
- Metroid amiibo (Metroid series)
- Ridley amiibo (Super Smash Bros. series)
- Samus amiibo (Super Smash Bros. series)
- Samus amiibo (Metroid Dread)
- Samus Aran amiibo (Metroid series)
- Zero Suit Samus amiibo (Super Smash Bros. series)
How to Scan Amiibo in Metroid Prime 4 Beyond

To use amiibo in Metroid Prime 4, go to the game’s menus (by pressing the ‘-‘ button) and navigate to the ‘amiibo’ screen. Even though it initially shows only the Metroid Prime 4 amiibo, you can scan any amiibo from the Metroid series there. Select ‘Scan amiibo’ and then hold your amiibo near the NFC reader (as shown in the image) to activate it!
