Overwatch 2 Making Huge Improvement for Console Players in Season 20

Overwatch 2 is significantly improving how aim assist works with controllers. Starting December 9th with Season 20, players using controllers will have more control with new settings to adjust aim assist precisely, and overall, it will be 6–8% stronger. This should make aiming easier and more consistent for all players on consoles or those who prefer using a controller, no matter what hero they play.

Aim assist is a common feature in shooting games designed to help controller players aim as accurately as those using a mouse and keyboard. In Overwatch 2, this works by giving each character a subtle ‘aim assist bubble’ that gently guides their shots, making them more accurate. Currently, the game offers strong aim assist, and players can even adjust it specifically for each hero.

Overwatch 2’s Season 20 is bringing significant improvements to aim assist for controller players. The base aim assistance is being increased by 6-8%, depending on how far away the target is, and the default settings are being adjusted to provide a better experience for most players. Players who want even more control will find new settings, including separate sliders to adjust aim assist for different hero types (projectile, hitscan, and melee). Support players will also benefit from an Aim Assist Health Threshold feature, and there are four additional sensitivity sliders to customize turning speed.

  • 6-8% base aim assist
  • Separate settings for Aim Assist Ease In for Projectile, Hitscan, and Melee heroes
  • Aim Assist Health Threshold feature for healers
  • Four extra sensitivity sliders for turning speed
  • New defaults that should feel more intentional for casual players

The upcoming changes will make aim assist work better for all heroes in Overwatch 2, no matter what role they play or weapon they use. It will feel more precise and players will have more control over it. Specifically, a new feature will help support heroes like Mercy and Lifeweaver quickly target allies who are critically injured, even if those allies are behind others who are at full health. This prevents wasted ability uses and allows for faster, more effective healing.

The recent improvements to aim assist in Overwatch 2 were made because the developers discovered it was less effective compared to other console first-person shooters. They also recognized that Overwatch 2’s faster, more chaotic gameplay style required a more robust aim assist system.

Other Overwatch 2 Season 20 Features

Season 20 of Overwatch 2 is adding a lot more than just changes to how aim assist works. The biggest addition is Vendetta, the first melee-focused damage hero, who encourages a fast-paced, aggressive playstyle – and will especially benefit from the improved aim assist for players using controllers. Plus, a new Challenger Tier in Competitive Play will make it easier to climb the ranks.

Stadium is getting a lot of fresh content! Players will be able to try out the new heroes Doomfist and Wuyang, plus a revamped version of Cassidy with updated abilities and items. A brand-new map called Wuxing University is also being added as a potential battle location. And in a future update, turrets will be added to help teams who are being overwhelmed at their base to make a comeback and contest the objective.

I’m so excited about all the new stuff coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 20! They’re adding a ton of awesome skins with the Battle Pass and in the store – I especially want the Mythic Divine Desperado Cassidy skin, and the Capsule Cannon Orisa skin looks really cool. Plus, they’re releasing a Magma Titan Doomfist skin during the midseason patch! And get this – Winter Wonderland is coming back on December 9th and lasting until January 7th! It’ll have all the usual fun game modes, and a new holiday event called Mischief & Magic. Prop Hunt is back for the first two weeks, but then they’re adding a twist where the disguised players can actually fight back – apparently Kiriko can even go toe-to-toe with Genji! No word on any brand new collaborations yet, but the Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover is returning from December 16th to 29th, so we’ll have another chance to snag any skins we missed, and we can earn the Katara Mei skin by playing!
