How to Use Bomb Slots in Metroid Prime 4

In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, you’ll explore the alien world of Viewros and find lots of upgrades. Many secrets are hidden and require you to come back later with new abilities to reach them. One of the first abilities you’ll get lets you deploy small, explosive bombs while transformed into a Morph Ball.

In Metroid Prime 4, you’ll soon gain an ability called Psychic Bombs after getting the Control Beam. You unlock it by exploring an ancient temple in the green Fury region and beating its boss. This guide will tell you exactly when and where to find this new ability, and share some helpful details about the temple itself.

Cross the Infinity Bridge & Enter the Temple

Once you’ve rescued Federation Engineer Myles MacKenzie – he’s quite the talker! – head through Fury Green until you come to a huge bridge over the jungle. You may have spotted this bridge from afar while exploring Viewros, and once you locate the entrance, the way forward is simple.

Getting to the temple isn’t going to be easy. You’ll face multiple attacks from dangerous creatures called Jungle Grievers along the way. Myles won’t be much help, but Samus is well-equipped to handle them.

Naviate Through the Fury Green Temple

Inside the temple, you’ll gain the Control Beam, a special ability that lets you fire a beam independently while time slows down. It’s primarily used to solve puzzles within the temple and in later areas of the game.

Okay, so I’m using my Psychic Glove and Control Beam to get through these locked doors – it’s the only way to reach Base Camp! Once I got there, Myles immediately noticed the Lamorn Control System over to the left. There are some doors that don’t work, but before messing with those, I found a save room by heading through the doorway on the east side. Definitely good to save before exploring!

After you come back, use the console to start a brief scene. Myles will give you more details about the technology, you’ll provide him with language information, and he’ll manage to open the door a little further into the temple.

The door won’t unlock from here, but you can shoot a special beam through the hole next to it. This will unlock the door from the other side.

Go through the doors and find the small opening for the Morph Ball. Roll through the tunnel until you reach the other side.

Ahead, you’ll find a room with two statues on either side of a central device. Scan either statue to watch a brief cutscene explaining the Green Energy Crystals you’ll gather as you play.

Don’t forget to collect Green Energy Crystals whenever you can! Gathering them throughout the game will save you time and effort later on.

Beyond the entrance, you’ll find a large Ceremonial Chamber. Inside, there’s a raised platform overlooking a small pond. When you step onto the platform, three points around the pond will light up. Use your Control Beam to hit each of these points in order – this will unlock the door on the opposite side of the room.

After you defeat the temple’s boss, it’s worth revisiting the room on the left, called the Sanctum of the Guardians. You’ll find extra details there about the boss and the world the game takes place in.

Keep going to the next room and use your Psychic Glove. Then, go through the doors ahead to begin the battle with Carnax, the temple’s boss.

Defeat Carvex to Unlock Psychic Bombs

When you enter the chamber, a brief video will show you the massive plant boss, Carvex. To beat Carvex, you need to use your Control Beam to keep destroying its vines.

After you beat the boss, you’ll get the Psychic Bombs power-up. This lets you place up to three bombs while in Morph Ball form, which is great for finding hidden areas, opening new paths, and getting a little extra height when you jump.

Since the entrance is still blocked, you’ll have to use your new ability to escape through a narrow passage on the side of the room – it’s only big enough when you’re in Morph Ball form. You’ll need to use a Psychic Bomb to clear the way first.

Roll through the Morph Ball tunnel, using bombs to clear any blocks. This will bring you back to the Ceremonial Chamber. From there, head back to Base Camp.

As you continue and reach the next area with the Morph Ball (Broken Hall), look for a spot you can blast open with your Psychic Bombs. Breaking it open will reveal a missile upgrade inside.

Now, just go back to Myles MacKenzie at Base Camp (which is in the next room) to find out what to do next in Metroid Prime 4 Beyond.
