This article contains spoilers from the JJK series.
The story of Jujutsu Kaisen is becoming increasingly captivating, particularly as the author, Gege Akutami, brings back familiar characters. Most recently, Akutami has reintroduced Yuji, which has significantly heightened the suspense. Though many fans suspected Yuji might survive the 68-year time skip in JJK, it’s now confirmed he’s not only alive, but still at his peak.
Readers were surprised to learn that Yuji Itadori is effectively immortal – he’s stopped aging. The author has confirmed this detail throughout the series, most recently with Nobara pointing it out in chapter 13 of JJK Modulo. This is a major development in the JJK Modulo storyline, and fans are eager to find out how Yuji’s story will ultimately conclude.
Yuji Itadori Is Immortal In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
Image from Manga Plus Yuji Itadori wasn’t a typical person. He was born through the machinations of Kenjaku and specifically designed to be the ideal host for Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses. This meant his body was far from ordinary.
Yuji is partially a cursed spirit because he absorbed many of his Death Painting siblings right before the dangerous Shinjuku Showdown. This fundamentally changed his body, and as a result, he no longer ages. He stopped aging completely at one point and has remained physically unchanged ever since.
I last saw him at Hana’s funeral, and he told me he was done going to funerals. He might look tough, but he’s actually really sensitive and can’t handle saying goodbye to people. It was hard on me too, seeing him like that. After all, he doesn’t age like normal people do. — Nobara Kugisaki, speaking about Yuji Itadori, from Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 13
Although it seems positive – granting him immortality and continued strength – many fans are aware that Yuji Itadori is currently very depressed due to his inability to age.
Yuji Is The Strongest, But He Is Losing All His Friends
Because Yuji can’t be killed, he’s held the title of the strongest for a while now. However, as Gojo and Sukuna pointed out, being unbeatable comes with a deep loneliness. No one truly understands that isolation like the person at the very top, and that’s what Yuji is experiencing right now.
Yuji’s loneliness is actually more devastating than what Gojo or Sukuna experienced, as he’s repeatedly losing the people he cares about.
Gojo Satoru, in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 236, explained to Geto Suguru that you can appreciate the beauty of a flower, but you can’t expect it to understand you. It’s a simple analogy about the limits of connection and understanding.
Yuta and Maki’s deaths were deeply upsetting to everyone, including Yuji. Given how close Yuji and Yuta were, this loss understandably affected him greatly. However, the biggest blow to Yuji came from what he believed was the loss of Megumi Fushiguro.
The last funeral he went to was for Hana. He told Nobara he wouldn’t be sticking around much longer, explaining that he couldn’t bear watching all his friends die while he remained strong and healthy.
Yuji Will Be Killed By Dabura In Battle
Image from Manga Plus A major focus in the current storyline of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is Yuji’s inability to age. Despite this, the author is heavily hinting at his eventual death. It seems likely Yuji will reappear after a significant period of being missing, given how much emphasis there is on his disappearance.
Mahito has reappeared in the story, and he’s anticipating a confrontation with Yuji. Their next meeting will either lead to a battle, or they will both transition to the afterlife.
The story is building towards a deadly fight between Dabura and Yuji, and it seems likely Yuji will die in this battle. While Yuji doesn’t age, he can be killed. If Dabura is the stronger fighter, he’ll conquer Tokyo and, tragically, fulfill Yuji’s desire to die, allowing him to move on and reunite with his friends, similar to what happened to Gojo after his fight with Sukuna.
The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is currently being published in Weekly Shonen Jump. Set 68 years after the Shinjuku Showdown, the story follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Chapter 14 is scheduled to come out on December 7, 2025, at midnight in Japan (11:00 AM Eastern Time, 8:00 AM Pacific Time). Readers can access the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
