Electronic Arts (EA) is discontinuing support for its 2019 racing game, Grid, on December 19th. This is part of a larger trend throughout 2025 where EA has been shutting down several of its older titles, particularly mobile games. They actually closed down nine games in just the first month of the year.
Man, January was rough for mobile gaming. Losing Rory McIlroy PGA Tour sucked, but The Simpsons: Tapped Out really hit hard – I still see players holding onto the app, hoping EA will somehow bring it back. Honestly, it doesn’t seem like EA ever revives a dead game unless they completely remake it, and I’m guessing the next game they shut down will be the same story. It’s a bummer, but that’s just how it seems to go.
When is Grid Shutting Down?
- Friday, December 19
Currently, EA has announced only one game closure for December 2025: the 2019 racing game Grid. On December 19th, EA will discontinue online services for Grid, developed by Codemasters. While the game received mixed reviews, it did win an award for Best Racing Game at Gamescom when it was released. Players will still be able to enjoy Grid offline, but all online features will no longer be available after December 19th. If you’re interested in playing the game with all its features, now is the time to do so before the servers are shut down.

It’s always disappointing when a game is discontinued, but fans of the Grid series don’t need to worry completely. While some older Grid games are going offline after December 19th, the latest installment, Grid Legends (released in 2022), is doing well and will remain playable online. Grid Legends actually received slightly better reviews than the 2019 Grid game, and currently, there are no plans to shut down its online features.

More EA games might be discontinued before the end of the year, but fans likely have until 2026 before further closures. Currently, two games are confirmed to shut down in the new year: Anthem on January 12th and NBA Live 19 on January 30th. Once NBA Live 19 is gone, there won’t be any EA basketball games with online play. The closure of Anthem means another BioWare game will no longer be available. If you’re interested in playing either of these games, be sure to do so quickly – the 2019 Grid game is scheduled to be the first to go offline.
