In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, you’ll use three different elemental weapons to solve puzzles and access upgrades. A key part of the game involves matching the right weapon to special “elemental locks” that block your path. This guide will show you how to get the Ice Shot weapon and overcome Ice Blockers in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
How to Get the Ice Chip in Metroid Prime 4
Complete the Ice Belt Dungeon:
In Metroid Prime 4, you can upgrade to the Ice Shot by finding the Ice Chip. This item is located towards the end of the Ice Belt, which is the game’s third major dungeon.
Once you’ve finished Fury Green and Volt Forge, head to Flare Pool in the southeast of Sol Valley. You’ll find the Fire Chip there – it’s key to getting back to the Fury Green base camp and unlocking the Fire Shot weapon. You need to do this before you can move on to the Ice Belt level.
Once you’re ready, go to the northwest part of Sol Valley to find the entrance to the Ice Belt. After riding the tram, you’ll arrive in a big room with a pod hanging from the ceiling. You’ll see a glowing blue object on that pod.
This is the Ice Chip. You can’t get it just yet, though. First, you’ll need to explore the dungeon and defeat the Snow Wolves. Then, you have to beat Keratos, the boss of this area, to get the Boost Ball upgrade. After that, you’ll come back to this room on your way out.
Returning with Boost Ball Upgrade:
With the boost ball upgrade, you can now get the Ice Chip. Return to the room with the hanging pod and head up to the enclosed area with windows. You’ll find a broken door there that you can’t open from where you are.
Shoot the Psychic Charge Beam from the broken window, aiming around the door to hit the oval target. This will unlock the door and reveal the Boost Ball spinner near the crane’s base. Use the Boost upgrade on the spinner to power up the crane. Then, interact with the hologram that appears to release the pod containing the Ice Chip.
Approach the pod and interact with the blue light to acquire the Ice Chip.
Return to Fury Green Base Camp:
Similar to what you did with the Fire Chip, return to Myles at his base camp. Talking to him will automatically give him the Ice Chip and permanently unlock the Ice Shot for you to use.
How to Clear Ice Blocker Locks in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
With the Ice Shot, you can now break through any Ice Blockers you encounter. Just lock onto them and fire a single shot from the Ice Shot to permanently destroy them.
The Ice Blocker is a type of door lock that’s easy to identify by its white, icy look. You can also consult the map to confirm what kind of lock you’ve found.
