As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the latest addition to Xbox Game Pass’ lineup – Age of Mythology: Retold – has me absolutely thrilled! Being an avid fan of the original game, I can’t wait to dive back into the world of mythology and conquer once more.

Xbox Game Pass is set to include a new game in its library from day one: the remake of Age of Mythology: Retold. Microsoft’s gaming subscription offers access to numerous titles, with around 25 for Core and hundreds for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Those who subscribe to the top tier will be able to play many games on their release day, which makes the service even more attractive for many users.

Beyond providing an extensive library of games for selection right from the start, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate also bestows additional benefits on its subscribers, such as special deals, rewards, and access to EA Play. These rewards can sometimes take the form of free in-game items, like a complimentary starter pack for NHL 24, but they may also encompass real-world gifts. For instance, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers have until January 2025 to redeem three months of Discord Nitro free of charge, and previously there have been offers for free Spotify Premium memberships, Disney+ trials, and Grubhub credits.

In September, Xbox Game Pass is planning to add three strategic games to its collection. First up on the 4th is Age of Mythology: Retold, a real-time strategy game that has been developed by World’s Edge and Forgotten Empires. This game is already garnering generally favorable reviews. Two weeks later, on September 17th, comes Train Sim World 5. Lastly, on the 20th, we have the much-anticipated sequel to the 2018 award-winning city-building survival game, Frost Punk 2, set in a post-apocalyptic world.

Age of Mythology: Remastered is, as the title suggests, an updated version of the original game created by Ensemble Studios, which was launched in 2002. It employs the same engine as Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition, called Bang Bang, resulting in enhanced graphics and completely overhauled animations. The characters and structures within the game have been redesigned, and the destruction of buildings under attack now appears more authentic; for instance, a burning Granary will emit smoke and drop wooden pieces before crumbling into debris.
