Starlight Partners With EB Games For Children in Hospitals

As many of our readers already know, Game Rant and our partner sites recently teamed up with The Starlight Children’s Foundation to support children spending long periods in hospitals. Thanks to your generous contributions, we raised over $50,000 to provide these kids with gaming consoles! Now, Starlight is building on that success with a new collaboration.

With the holidays just around the corner, it’s especially important to bring joy to children in foster care and their families. That’s why Starlight has teamed up with EB Games Canada for a special program that will continue until the end of 2025.

The Starlight Children’s Foundation Knows It’s More Than Just A Game

Hospital stays are crucial for children facing serious illnesses, but being in the hospital for a long time can be discouraging for both kids and their families. Starlight understands this, and works hard to bring joy and a sense of normalcy to these young patients, helping them enjoy being kids and stay connected with loved ones who can’t be there in person.

Throughout 2024, Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada delivered over 100 Starlight Gaming systems to hospitals in nine provinces, helping to brighten the days of thousands of children. This brought the total number of gaming systems in hospitals to over 420, providing more than 2,000 opportunities each year for children undergoing lengthy or frequent hospital treatments to experience comfort and connection.

Starlight’s work is making a real difference for patients. While hospitals have always focused on physical health, 83% recently said they didn’t have enough support to address patients’ mental and emotional wellbeing. That’s where Starlight’s gaming systems have been incredibly helpful, according to the hospitals we work with:

  • 98% say Starlight Gaming Systems benefit the mental health of their patients.
  • 95% have seen positive changes in children’s behavior, including reduced anxiety and restlessness.
  • 95% report that the systems make interactions with hospital staff easier.

For many gamers, consoles and PCs are a fun pastime or a way to relax. But for some children, these systems are providing a unique kind of healing – offering joy, boosting their spirits, and helping them connect with others in ways traditional medicine can’t.

EB Games Canada Joins Forces With Starlight To Spread Holiday Cheer

Following a successful partnership with Game Rant and other gaming websites, the Starlight Children’s Foundation is continuing its work to help children staying in hospitals for long periods. Throughout November and December, Starlight and EB Games Canada are working together to raise $500,000. They plan to use the money to keep providing gaming consoles to hospitals, offering patients a fun and positive distraction during challenging treatments.

Between November 3rd and December 31st, 2025, EB Games Canada will donate a portion of the money it receives from customers who trade in their old consoles and games. This helps keep used electronics out of landfills and supports Starlight Children’s Foundation. Specifically, EB Games will donate 10% of the trade-in value for each game, accessory, or console to Starlight.

Each Starlight gaming system – which includes a Nintendo Switch, Pro Controller, two Joy-Con controllers, and 25 pre-installed games – costs $5,000 to create and deliver. Starlight is partnering with EB Games to raise money for at least 100 more systems to give to children.
