The team behind the game Postal: Bullet Paradise has closed down after initially making accusations about the use of AI-generated content, then walking those claims back.
Running With Scissors announced on Friday they were canceling their new game, Postal: Bullet Paradise, just one day after revealing it. The decision came after a strong negative reaction to the game’s planned use of AI-generated content. As a result, the studio has halted development and is no longer working with the game’s developer, Goonswarm Games.
So, after everyone started talking, Goonswarm Games quickly jumped in to defend themselves. They put out a statement saying they were wrongly accused of using AI art in the game, and that every time they tried to explain what actually happened, things just got worse. It’s frustrating when people don’t believe you, especially when you’re putting a lot of work into something!
The studio expressed sincere apologies to artists who poured their heart and effort into their work, and then faced unfair accusations of using AI.
They explained it was disheartening to invest so much effort into their game only to find themselves unintentionally involved in a conflict surrounding artificial intelligence. As a result, they’ve made the difficult decision to close the studio and cease all further development.
We’ve shut down the studio

It’s common for game developers to be accused of using AI, but the recent decision to close a studio based on what they said were untrue claims surprised many people.
Turns out, there was more smoke to the fire.
Following a previous denial, Goonswarm Games admitted yesterday that they did use AI-generated assets in their game, Postal: Bullet Paradise. They shared a detailed statement on social media explaining the situation.
They acknowledged that the promotional artwork seems to contain or be based on material created by artificial intelligence. They explained that, having worked with outside artists for a long time, they hadn’t noticed anything like this before. The image files they received always appeared genuine based on their usual review process, which is why they immediately focused on supporting their team and asserting that they hadn’t done anything wrong.
We now realize your concerns were justified, and we apologize for not addressing this sooner. We take full responsibility for the oversight.
The studio clarified that the only artwork created using AI was for promotional materials, and that the artists who created the game’s visuals, assets, and other in-game content were not affected.
Vince Desi, founder of Running With Scissors, told TopMob they wish the other party well as they both pursue different paths.
He stated that Running With Scissors has always been dedicated to honesty and openness. The company also plans to continue supporting its fanbase and building upon the popular Postal game series, which is enjoyed by millions of players.
We’re curious to hear your thoughts on the recent issues involving Running With Scissors, Goonswarm Games, and the use of AI in Postal: Bullet Paradise. Share your opinions in the comments below or join the discussion on the official TopMob Discord server.
