The final game in the Final Fantasy 7 remake series – which started with FF7 Remake in 2020 and continued with FF7 Rebirth in 2024 – is nearing a confirmed title. However, this is currently just within the development team, and it will likely be a while before fans find out what it is.
Good news for fans: everyone will be able to play the final chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy around the same time. Square Enix has announced it will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S, following the previous releases on PlayStation consoles. Although the game is still a few years off, Square Enix is doing a good job of keeping fans updated on its progress.
The game’s title is still being decided. Director Ryota Hamaguchi mentioned in an October interview (originally reported by Genkin_JPN) that he and creative director Tetsuya Nomura have two options and plan to make a final decision by the end of the year. This means Square Enix should have a title locked in by January 1st, though fans will likely have to wait for an official announcement to find out what it is.
Honestly, we’re all still waiting to find out what Square Enix is planning next, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for a big reveal at the 2025 Game Awards. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth just came out, and it’s still super popular, so they’re definitely continuing to work on that universe. I’m hoping that once we find out the name of the next big project, or even after it’s released, we might finally learn what other ideas they were considering!
What Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s Proper Title Could Be
Ever since Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy 7 Remake would be released in multiple parts, fans have been buzzing about what the next game will be called. Most people believe each title will start with “Re,” similar to the first game, to keep things consistent. While that’s not guaranteed, many fans have been sharing their ideas for what the full title might be.
- Final Fantasy 7 Requiem
- Final Fantasy 7 Resurrection
- Final Fantasy 7 Renewal
These upcoming titles are deeply connected to the story and ideas of Final Fantasy 7, and each one will likely spark a lot of fan theories. Considering how much the FF7 Remake and Rebirth changed things, that speculation could really build excitement. Nomura and Hamaguchi clearly know how important choosing these titles is. Honestly, we’re a little envious that they’ll know the titles for months, maybe even years, before the fans do, since Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is still a long way off.
Based on how long it took to develop and release the previous two games (2020 and 2024), the final installment might arrive as soon as 2028. While it could potentially come sooner, 2028 or later seems more probable. This third game will be the exciting conclusion to the project, so Square Enix will want to ensure it delivers a satisfying ending. In the meantime, players have plenty to experience within each of the Final Fantasy 7 games already released.
If someone loved the first two Final Fantasy VII Remake games but hasn’t experienced the original, now is the perfect time to play it. The upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will likely change the ending, so it’s good to know the original story first.
