Daredevil: Born Again Star Shares Dream Role in the DC Universe

As a long-time Marvel fan and avid gamer, I must say that Vincent D’Onofrio’s passion for the characters he plays is truly inspiring. While his menacing portrayal of Kingpin in the MCU has left an indelible mark on my gaming experiences, it’s refreshing to see him yearn for a role outside the Marvel Universe. His expressed desire to play Swamp Thing from the DC Universe speaks volumes about his love for comics and his commitment to his craft.

An actor known for playing a villain in a Marvel Cinematic Universe show revealed that his ideal character would be a DC Universe antihero supervillain. Yet, Marvel enthusiasts need not worry as this actor expressed his fondness for the Marvel Cinematic Universe too

As a dedicated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fan, I can’t help but marvel at the exceptional talent gracing our screens as part of this epic universe. For example, Tom Holland, who currently plays Spider-Man, had always dreamed of embodying this iconic character. When asked about his desired superhero role in his younger years, he boldly declared, “Spider-Man.”

Vincent D’Onofrio, renowned for his portrayal of Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Daredevil, expressed his dream role during a Q&A at Dragon Con. Interestingly enough, this character hails from the DC Universe. “I’m not sure if you all share my enthusiasm for DC,” D’Onofrio mentioned (as reported by ComicBookMovie). “Although I enjoy Marvel too, since that’s my profession, my childhood comics were Captain America, Spider-Man, and Swamp-Thing. Yes, Swamp-Thing – if given the chance, I would love to play him.”

On another occasion, D’Onofrio publicly voiced his enthusiasm for portraying the swamp creature, Swamp Thing. During a Q&A session at the Fan Expo Dallas in 2023, he openly expressed his affection for the tormented DC hero and shared his reasons. “I’m drawn to Swamp Thing,” he said thoughtfully. “He’s the role I aspire to play… I must confess… I didn’t grow up with Swamp Thing, but it was a later fascination that captivated me. I admire the unique way this character thinks and functions.” As reported by CinemaBlend

Vincent D’Onofrio first appeared as Kingpin in Netflix’s “Daredevil” back in 2015. He subsequently reprised this role in Disney Plus’ “Hawkeye” and its spinoff “Echo.” Kingpin, a notorious supervillain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, frequently creates problems for Spider-Man. However, it’s no surprise that D’Onofrio is drawn to portray Swamp Thing given the character’s intriguing nature. Swamp Thing, unlike ordinary characters, is a unique blend of paranormal elements and superhero genre, which might seem unusual but works exceptionally well

Dr. Alec Holland, a scientist developing a restorative bio-formula, was changed into the Swamp Thing following an explosion and being drenched with his own concoction. This mossy, green creature seamlessly fits within its surroundings and becomes a guardian of nature – acting as the bond that connects all plant life. The series incorporates horror elements and the damp, overgrown settings of swamps and forests give it a haunting and gothic atmosphere. What sets Swamp Thing apart from other DC Universe superheroes is its horror-oriented theme. Luckily for D’Onofrio, the role seems to be open for casting. As he awaits an official offer to play Swamp Thing, he is expected to reprise his role as Kingpin in the upcoming Daredevil remake

Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney Plus in March 2025.
