Here’s What Happened At The Slitherine Next 2025 – 25th Anniversary

Everything You Need to Know About The Slitherine Next

Slitherine’s Next is a special event where the strategy game company reveals its latest projects and shares updates with its community. Because December isn’t a typical time for big gaming news, I anticipated a relatively quiet presentation. However, the show was surprisingly packed with announcements, including some very exciting ones like the new Bolt Action video game and the Cold War setting for Headquarters.

Here’s a recap of the highlights from Slitherine Next 2025 – celebrating their 25th anniversary! If you weren’t able to watch the live stream, you can view the full recording here.

Bolt Action Video Game

Something unexpected just surfaced: Slitherine is making a video game based on the popular tabletop wargame, Bolt Action, and the first trailer looks promising. Rather than just replicating the tabletop rules, the game will adapt them for a better digital experience.

I really enjoyed the first trailer! I’m particularly impressed with three things: the detailed character models, the vibrant art style, and the smooth animations. I’ve always believed that a game’s animation quality is a good indicator of its overall polish, so seeing such impressive visuals in a short, 30-second trailer is very promising.

You’re probably wondering if the game will have a way to customize your armies, and the answer is yes! Be sure to add Bolt Action to your wishlist.

Headquarters Will Take On The Cold War

When Headquarters: World War 2 launched in 2024, it was praised for being easy for new players to learn. Now, the developers are bringing that same accessibility to a new game, Headquarters: Cold War. This turn-based strategy game is set during the Cold War – a setting rarely seen in easily approachable games. In fact, it feels quite original, and I can’t think of another game that tackles this era in such a user-friendly way, which is why I’m really looking forward to it. As someone who often finds Cold War games difficult to get into, this seems like a perfect starting point.

You’ll Be Able To Play Battleplan Soon

Battleplan is a really interesting new game that takes the planning tools from Hearts of Iron 4 and uses them in a different way – at a more hands-on, operational level. I’ve had a chance to play it, and I’m impressed with how well it’s coming together and its potential. You can try it out for yourself during the Steam Next Fest, running from February 23rd to March 2nd.

Radio Commander Acquisition

Slitherine has acquired Radio Commander, so they will be publishing Radio Commander: Pacific ’41. The game is now scheduled to be released in Spring 2026. I interviewed the development team back in 2022.

Nightmare Frontier Joins The Slitherine Line-Up Too

Slitherine is clearly in a festive mood! They’ve recently added two new games to their lineup: Radio Commander and Nightmare Frontier. I wasn’t familiar with Nightmare Frontier before, but it looks promising – a single-player, turn-based strategy game with roguelite features set in the early 1900s. It sounds like exactly the kind of game I’d enjoy.
