Steam 2D Action RPG With Classic JRPG Vibes Can Be Claimed for Free

The popular JRPG, Inotia 4, is now available on PC as a free game on Steam. If you enjoy titles like Octopath Traveler, this classic game offers a new experience for players, and it’s a welcome addition to the Steam library for RPG fans.

As a retro RPG fan, I’ve been digging around on Steam and there are tons of old-school games to choose from – everything from straight-up ports of classics to full-on remakes and reboots of series I loved. But honestly, finding a good, free-to-play one is rare. That’s why I think everyone should check out Inotia 4 – it’s easy to miss if you’re just browsing, but it’s a really cool find.

Inotia 4 Has Serious Octopath Traveler Vibes

If you enjoy Japanese-style RPGs, you can now download and play Inotia 4 for free on Steam. Originally released on mobile in 2012, it was recently brought to PC on December 8, 2025, letting both new and old fans experience the game. Inotia 4 is a favorite among players who like pixel-art RPGs such as Octopath Traveler, offering a classic look and feel with memorable characters, different classes, and plenty of equipment. However, unlike many JRPGs, Inotia 4 doesn’t use turn-based combat. You can move around freely during battles and even sneak past enemies while exploring.

Inotia 4 is the first game in the popular KRPG series to be released on Steam, and it works with Steam Deck and controllers. The developers, Com2Us, are planning updates to fix bugs and improve performance, but early reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Many players who remember enjoying the game on their phones years ago are excited to revisit it, with one fan saying they discovered it a decade ago and were thrilled to see it on Steam. Even new players are impressed with the game’s graphics and story, and recommend it as a great free-to-play option for RPG fans.

Just so you know, Inotia 4 does offer optional in-app purchases. You can buy things like gems and useful items, equipment, and powerful weapons in the game store. While most items can be earned simply by playing, some might take a little extra effort. Luckily, the game has a crafting system where you can create rare items yourself, which can lessen the need to spend gems.

If you enjoyed the role-playing style of Octopath Traveler on Steam, you’ll be happy to know there are several free games with a similar feel. Sword of Convallaria is a standout – it’s a turn-based JRPG with beautiful pixel art and an engaging story. Created by XD, it was released in 2024 and has received positive reviews from most Steam players.
