Xbox Game Pass Just Got One of Its Most Brutal Additions Yet

Good news for fighting game fans and Xbox Game Pass subscribers! Mortal Kombat 1 is now available on the service starting December 10th. The Mortal Kombat series, famous for its intense action, memorable characters, and rich story, has been a gaming staple for over 30 years. With numerous games, spin-offs, movies, and more, it’s a huge franchise. Now, Xbox Game Pass members can experience the newest installment without any extra cost.

For many years, Mortal Kombat has been one of the most important fighting game series, alongside a few others. Each new game tries to improve on the last, whether by adding more characters, making the fighting better, or telling the story in a new way. As a result, Mortal Kombat has become one of the most famous and well-known video game franchises ever created, not just within the fighting game genre.

Mortal Kombat 1 Joins the Xbox Game Pass Lineup

Xbox Game Pass subscribers on the Ultimate, PC, and Premium plans gained access to Mortal Kombat 1 on December 10th. Despite being called Mortal Kombat 1, this award-winning game is actually the twelfth main game in the series and restarts the story for the third time, creating a new timeline shaped by Liu Kang. Players can experience a story campaign where the Fire God gathers fighters for a tournament, exploring a reimagined universe with familiar characters and fresh origins.

In addition to the main story, Mortal Kombat 1 features a seasonal mode called Invasions. This is a single-player experience where you navigate a board, battle opponents, and complete challenges. It blends fighting gameplay with RPG-like progression, offering rewards such as cosmetic items and in-game currency, providing a different and engaging experience from the story mode.

Mortal Kombat 1 includes Kameo Fighters, which let you choose a partner to team up with during battles. These Kameos have special moves that can create powerful combinations and turn the tide of a fight. You pick your Kameo before the match, and you can only use them when your Kameo meter is full, which is displayed alongside your health.

As 2025 comes to a close, Microsoft is continuing to add new games to its gaming service. While the December lineup isn’t official yet, subscribers have already enjoyed a diverse selection of titles this month, including Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage (from the creators of Life is Strange), Stellaris, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Routine. Recently added games include the challenging deck-builder Death Howl, Dome Keeper, and the quirky A Game About Digging a Hole.

Xbox Game Pass has a plan for almost every gamer. You can choose a subscription that gives you access to a huge library of games, or opt for a more affordable plan with fewer titles. The most comprehensive option, Game Pass Ultimate, includes over 500 games for both consoles and PCs, with many new releases available to play on day one. It also bundles in memberships to EA Play, Ubisoft+, and Fortnite Crew. For a simpler experience, the Game Pass Essential tier offers a selection of 50 games. All Game Pass plans come with extra benefits like yearly perks, discounts on games, online multiplayer for consoles, and cloud gaming for select titles.
