A Surprise New Star Wars: Old Republic Game Was Just Announced, and It’s Certainly Welcomed

At The Game Awards, a new game called Fate of the Old Republic was revealed, taking place in the Star Wars universe’s Old Republic era. While the reveal was short, it generated a lot of excitement among fans.

It was a huge and pleasant surprise! Before the event, there were lots of rumors about a Star Wars game being revealed at The Game Awards. Many people thought it would be the remake of KOTOR, but some speculated it could be Star Wars Jedi 3, a new Old Republic game, or something completely different. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long to find out. While the remake seemed like the most likely option, the announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is really exciting.

  • New Old Republic Game Titled Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic (FOTOR)
  • Directed by Casey Hudson (new studio – Arcanaut Studios)
  • No gameplay or release news

In this story-rich action RPG, you become a Force user and decide the fate of the galaxy as it begins a new era. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic combines a compelling story, characters you’ll remember, and exciting battles to create an immersive experience where your choices truly matter, leading you down the path to the light or the dark side.

Casey Hudson Returns to Star Wars

The initial preview was exciting, and Keighley also revealed that Casey Hudson, the director of the original Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect series, is involved in the game’s development. However, much of the information remains limited. Based on the title, the game likely focuses on the end of an era. Considering the Star Wars timeline – Old Republic, High Republic, and the original trilogy – it’s clearly set thousands of years in the past.

It’s often smart to announce a new game alongside a remake. Since we haven’t heard much about the KOTOR remake recently, hopefully this news will get things moving again. Fans would love to get an update soon, rather than waiting years, but it’s likely the game won’t be released in 2026.

The remake of Knights of the Old Republic was originally announced in September 2021 for PC and PlayStation 5. After the initial announcement, the developer, Aspyr, became silent, and rumors began circulating about problems with the game’s development. These concerns were largely confirmed when Saber Interactive took over the project in August 2022. Now, it appears the remake is finally making progress and getting back on track.
