New Dungeons and Dragons Video Game Warlock Revealed

Wizards of the Coast’s Invoke Studios has announced Warlock, a new action adventure game played from a third-person perspective. Inspired by the Warlock class from Dungeons & Dragons, the game will let players use abilities like Eldritch Blasts and Pact Weapons. Warlock is currently scheduled to release in 2027.

Invoke Studios began in 2012 as Tuque Games, founded by Jeff Hattem. Hasbro bought the studio in 2019, and it began creating games based on Dungeons & Dragons, working with Wizards of the Coast. Their first game was Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance.

Warlock – New Dungeons and Dragons Action Adventure Game

Invoke Studios is expanding its presence in the world of Dungeons & Dragons with a new game called Warlock. This action RPG lets players control Kaatri, a skilled warrior and magic user who makes a deal with a powerful, dark being to become even stronger. The game’s first trailer, shown at The Game Awards, featured Kaatri – portrayed by Tricia Helfer – battling creatures like skeletons, vampires, and a beholder using both swordplay and magic.

Invoke Studios has shared initial details about their upcoming action RPG, Warlock, though gameplay hasn’t been shown yet. The game will be set in an open world and feature a story with choices that matter. Combat will be strategic and impactful, with players learning a wide variety of abilities. Players will control Kaatri, who can become skilled with melee weapons and also learn famous spells from Dungeons & Dragons, like Eldritch Blast and Evard’s Black Tentacles.

  • Play a Warlock, complete with a Pact Weapon and a mysterious Patron
  • Face enemies like skeletons, vampires, and beholders
  • Master spells like Eldritch Blast, Evard’s Black Tentacles, and more

Details about the story of Warlock are still emerging, but players can anticipate a gripping and shadowy tale. According to studio lead Dominic Guay, the protagonist, Kaatri, is on a quest that is both deeply personal and incredibly time-sensitive. This leads her to forge a pact with a powerful, enigmatic Patron – either to fulfill a mission or to aid her in completing it. The game will explore the cost of power and delve into the darker aspects of the Dungeons & Dragons Warlock class as Kaatri strives to master it.

While details are still scarce, analyzing the trailer for Warlock offers some clues about Kaatri’s powerful patron. Currently, her source of magic is unknown, but the frequent appearance of ravens suggests it could be the Raven Queen. Though mysterious, the Raven Queen has become increasingly popular thanks to Critical Role and The Legend of Vox Machina, making her a fitting choice for a character in Warlock.

Tasha, a well-known archfey and the storyteller behind Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, shares visual similarities with Kaatri, particularly a distinctive eye marking and the use of feathers in her appearance. This suggests a possible connection between the two characters.

Putting rumors aside, the game Warlock is planned to launch in 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. We should get our first look at Warlock, including gameplay footage, in the summer of 2026. A gameplay trailer might appear at next year’s Summer Game Fest, and the official release date could be announced at The Game Awards shortly after.

Wizards of the Coast also unveiled a new game at The Game Awards called Exodus. This science fiction action adventure is being developed by Archetype Entertainment and published by Wizards of the Coast themselves. The story is being written by renowned space opera author Peter Hamilton and Drew Karpyshyn, a veteran of BioWare known for his work on popular franchises like Baldur’s Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect. Early looks suggest Exodus will have a similar feel to Mass Effect, and it’s currently slated for release in 2027. It’s clear Wizards of the Coast is poised to become a major player in the gaming world.
