The Game Awards 2025 concluded with the exciting reveal of Mega Man: Dual Override, a brand-new side-scrolling adventure. This is the first major installment in the Mega Man series since Mega Man 11 in 2018. The iconic Blue Bomber first appeared in 1987 and has starred in numerous sequels and spin-offs. While Mega Man remains a popular franchise, especially for longtime fans, it hasn’t received as much attention recently as some of Capcom’s other games.
From 1987 to 1996, the original Mega Man series released eight games, from Mega Man 1 to Mega Man 8. After that, Mega Man 9 didn’t appear until 2008 – a twelve-year wait! Then, another eight years passed between Mega Man 10 in 2010 and Mega Man 11 in 2018. The upcoming game, Mega Man: Dual Override, is taking even longer to release, but fans can finally be relieved knowing it’s on its way.
During The Game Awards 2025, it was revealed that Mega Man: Dual Override will be released in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and the new Switch 2. A short gameplay demo showed Mega Man navigating a side-scrolling world with impressively detailed backgrounds. The game’s art style is similar to Mega Man 11, but appears more refined and vibrant.
Mega Man: Dual Override Trailer
We don’t know all the specifics of Mega Man: Dual Override yet, but it will likely play similarly to other Mega Man games. Players will probably be able to challenge bosses in any order they choose, earning upgrades that help them through the rest of the game’s levels and fights.
While Mega Man: Dual Override is set to return, it won’t be the only classic Capcom game making a comeback soon. At The Game Awards 2025, Capcom revealed a new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, confirming the return of Leon S. Kennedy. Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to release on February 27, 2026, meaning fans will be able to play it before Mega Man: Dual Override.
Capcom Confirmed the Return of Another Classic Franchise at Last Year’s Show
Capcom has a history of revealing classic game revivals at The Game Awards, and this year was no different. They surprised everyone by announcing that Hideki Kamiya is starting a new studio called Clovers to create a sequel to Okami, the well-loved Zeldainspired game famous for its beautiful, watercolor-like art style. While we don’t know when the Okami sequel will be released, it’s likely that Mega Man: Dual Override* will be available first, with a planned launch in 2027.
