Gege Akutami Reveals The Strongest Cursed Technique In Jujutsu Kaisen

This article contains spoilers from the JJK series.

Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen features a fascinating power system based on cursed energy and techniques. The sorcerers in JJK heavily depend on these techniques, but their strength varies greatly. Some are incredibly powerful, while others are less impressive. A sorcerer’s skill also plays a huge role in maximizing the potential of their technique.

When it comes to cursed techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo Satoru’s Limitless and Ryomen Sukuna’s Shrine are considered the most powerful. Though Sukuna’s Shrine proved more effective in the final arc of the story, the author has confirmed that Limitless is actually the stronger of the two techniques.

Gojo Satoru’s Limitless Is The Strongest Cursed Technique In Jujutsu Kaisen

The Shinjuku Showdown arc in Jujutsu Kaisen finally showed fans the intense fight between Gojo Satoru and Ryomen Sukuna. Although both were incredibly powerful, Sukuna ultimately won. This victory might make people think Sukuna’s Shrine is a more powerful technique, but that isn’t actually true.

Currently, Yuji Itadori possesses two cursed techniques. The Death Paintings, specifically numbers 4 through 9, have marked him with Blood Manipulation. Additionally, his awakened Black Flash ability has unlocked Malevolent Shrine, a complete curse originally belonging to Ryomen Sukuna and now imprinted on him. — Narrator on Yuji Itadori

Sukuna and Gojo are both incredibly powerful, and many fans initially believe Sukuna’s technique is superior. His Shrine is capable of slicing through nearly anything, and it seems only Gojo can withstand its attack.

Although Sukuna’s abilities seem impressive, Gojo’s technique is actually much more powerful. Gojo’s Limitless allows him to attract and repel objects, something Sukuna struggled to defend against. Combining Limitless with his Six Eyes gives Gojo a deep understanding of cursed energy that surpasses Sukuna’s. He doesn’t just attract and repel – he can combine these forces to create a powerful, imaginary mass that completely erases anything it touches.

Gojo’s Limitless Surpasses Sukuna And Yuji’s Shrine

While the basic functions of Limitless and Shrine are fairly similar, their true difference lies in their Domain Expansions. Sukuna’s Shrine is undeniably strong, but Gojo withstood it several times during their battle in Shinjuku. By maximizing his own Cursed Technique, Gojo could directly confront Shrine and survive. He even deliberately stopped regenerating to recharge his depleted cursed energy, relying on simpler domains until he recovered.

Ryomen Sukuna fights without restraint. His movements aren’t hindered, even when using cursed techniques or performing hand signs. The extra arms and hands he possesses give him a significant edge against other sorcerers, and his unusual physical form doesn’t slow him down at all. — Narrator on Ryomen Sukuna

Gojo’s Limitless is a completely different story. His Domain Expansion, Unlimited Void, is so powerful that it makes defeating him incredibly difficult. If Unlimited Void connects, most characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, including Sukuna, wouldn’t stand a chance. We saw how much damage Sukuna suffered in just ten seconds, and a full hit would have likely been fatal.

Furthermore, had Sukuna been struck by another Unlimited Void, he would have undoubtedly died, with no chance of survival. Conversely, Gojo could have easily withstood additional Shrine attacks—possibly even multiple ones—provided he continued to utilize his reverse cursed technique as a defense.

Gojo Is The Strongest Sorcerer In Jujutsu Kaisen

The question of whether Sukuna or Gojo is the more powerful sorcerer will likely always be debated. What happened in their fight is this: the author, Gege, stated that Gojo lost only because he became complacent near the end, after using Hollow Purple, believing he’d already won. Gojo tends to underestimate opponents. However, Gege also confirmed that a focused Gojo wouldn’t have made that mistake, implying his defeat was driven by the needs of the story rather than a genuine loss in power.

Gojo acknowledged that Sukuna was more powerful in that particular state, but this was due to Sukuna using the Ten Shadows technique. Without Mahoraga, Sukuna would have likely lost, as he couldn’t overcome Gojo’s Infinity – not even Malevolent Shrine was effective.

Gojo admitted he wasn’t certain he would have won easily without Mahoraga, which strongly suggests that Sukuna, while possessing Megumi’s body, was more powerful than he was before gaining the Ten Shadows. This is especially true when considering a fight against Gojo Satoru.

These two sorcerers are generally on equal footing, but Gojo’s cursed technique, Limitless, is significantly more powerful – a point the author, Gege, emphasized during their battle.
