Black Myth: Wukong - How To Beat Giant Shigandang

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating the labyrinthine world of Black Myth: Wukong, I can confidently say that the hunt for the elusive Giant Shigandang was an exhilarating challenge that tested my patience and reflexes to the limit. The journey to this formidable foe was filled with treacherous terrains, enigmatic puzzles, and fearsome adversaries, but none could prepare me for the sheer scale of the beast that lay in wait atop Mount Huagao.

In the concluding chapter of the game “Black Myth: Wukong,” there’s a hidden adversary known as Giant Shingandang. Nestled close to Mount Huaguo, this elusive boss can only be confronted after meeting specific conditions. Players need to track down and collect four Skandha before they can engage it in combat. The battle with this boss is unique because, for the most part, players cannot inflict damage on its body parts. This feature can extend the fight, occasionally making it lengthy and even tedious.

Players can gain a Trophy or Achievement following a boss battle by speaking with certain characters in the Zodiac Village. This detailed guide provides the positions of all the Skandhas, the boss, and winning tactics to conquer and vanquish it.

Where To Find All Skandhas

Players need to locate the initial four parts (Skandha) scattered across the game, which will ultimately lead them to the final boss battle against Giant Shigandang.

Skandha Chapter Location
1 From the Front Hills Keeper’s Shrine, head towards the main path and cross the wooden bridge. Follow this path until you head right for the Bullguard boss fight. Head left instead, and you will find a steam with a monkey standing nearby. The monkey will run away, allowing you to interact with the face-shaped rock to get the Skandha of Form.
2 After reaching the Rockrest Flat in Fright Cliff, follow the path left of the Keeper’s Shrine and turn left to enter the boss arena for Stone Vanguard. There should be a giant rock that you can interact with to deliver the six Buddha’s Eyeballs and trigger the Shigandang boss fight. This boss is not that tough as it only has a few attacks, but you will need to understand how to dodge them. Defeating the boss rewards you with the Skandha of Feeling.
3 From the Mindfulness Cliff in the Valley of Esctacy, head to the wooden ramp and fall to the right. Head straight and turn left, heading into the caves. Keep following this path as you go around the side of the mountain to reach another cave. Exit this cave to find the same monkey from the first chapter. As he runs away, interact with the face-shaped rock to get the Skandha of Thought.
4 After reaching The Putrifying Spring in Webbed Hollow, follow the main path from the Keeper’s Shrine, heading into the body of water before you. To the extreme left, you can spot a few Cocoons and the monkey sitting on a face-shaped rock. Interact with the rock to acquire the Skandha of Choice.
6 After defeating the Giant Shigandang in Mount Huagao, the game will reward you with the Skandha of Consciousness.

How To Find Giant Shigandang

Towards the end, navigate to the lush trail, situated within the foot of the hills. From the Keeper’s sanctuary, proceed directly towards the boss battle with the Supreme Inspector, where you’ll gain the Somersault Cloud ability as a reward. Leverage this Cloud for direct flight to the distant hill. As you near the waterfall on your left side, veer right to discover a narrow mountain passage. Continue along this path until it leads to an open space. Descend immediately from your Cloud here because, upon waking, the boss will bellow, causing you to dismount. If you’re up in the air at that point, you might sustain fall damage and be hurt.

How To Beat Giant Shigandang

Fighting against the colossal Shigandang is surprisingly straightforward, but it can be perplexing for players who don’t know where to strike. To begin, maintain a distance from the boss, but position yourself directly in front of its shadow. The optimal location would be just outside its shadow radius. Since you’re far away, the boss’s arm sweep attacks will likely miss. Be patient and wait until the boss slams both arms onto the ground to create a shockwave. Once the shockwave subsides, quickly move towards the arms as they rise again following a few seconds. This should provide ample opportunity for you to get close, hit the crystals on its arms several times, and then retreat back to your initial secure spot.

When assaulting the crystals on the boss’s arms, you have the freedom to select any stance that suits you best, provided you strike the crystals repeatedly.

Continue using this approach, and eventually, the creature’s health will deplete so much that it loses one of its limbs, providing an opportunity for you to scale it. This action initiates a cutscene. But, before the boss sheds a limb within your reach, it executes three powerful smashes which you must evade. If you fail to dodge these attacks, you’ll suffer heavy damage, potentially draining all of your health and causing you to restart the battle.

What To Do After The Boss Fight

Following your victory over the final boss, a scene will unfold where you’ll gain the last Skandha. If you’ve gathered all the Celestial Pills in the game, head to Xu-Dog, found in Zodiac Village, assuming you’ve finished Chen Loong’s questline. You’ll find an option to display him the Five Skandhas, which combined boost your stats. Obtaining this will reward you with the “Medicine Meal” Trophy/Achievement.
