Witchfire Adds Melee Weapons in New Update

The Astronauts, the team behind the dark fantasy shooter Witchfire, has launched a significant update. For the first time, players can now use melee weapons, alongside other new and exciting additions to the game.

Since launching in early access, Witchfire has become a hit, selling over half a million copies. Players on Steam especially love it, consistently giving the game high marks and highlighting its engaging combat and distinctive, atmospheric graphics.

The newest Witchfire update, called The Reckoning, is changing how combat works by adding four new melee weapons. Each weapon has its own special abilities and uses.

Witchfire’s Close-Quarter Combat Is Evolving

Witchfire announced they’re adding four new melee weapons – the morgenstern, katar, and shield – which will let players try out completely different ways to play the game.

Okay, so The Astronauts just keep making this game even better! They’ve added three new guns, and honestly, I’m hyped about The Tribunal – it’s a triple-barrel shotgun that feels amazing, especially since they also added a bunch of new melee weapons. It’s a perfect combo, seriously.

I recently spoke with Adrian Chmielarz, the CEO and founder of The Astronauts, to learn more about the new ‘Reckoning’ update and the future of their game, Witchfire.

Adrian explained that the new melee weapons make the game much more interesting, but emphasized that guns are still the primary focus. He clarified that while it’s still a shooting game, players can now swap out their standard hand-to-hand combat for unique weapons like a morningstar, claws, or a special knife called a katar.

Witchfire has sold over 500,000 copies since the beginning of its early access […]

The Tribunal shotgun is one of three new weapons and it lets players quickly dash or slide to build up powerful attacks. This encourages a fast-paced, run-and-gun playstyle that works especially well with close-combat moves.

The Astronauts have created a shooting range with a special interactive bestiary, letting players practice with their new and improved weapons before heading out on adventures.

Witchfire is now confirmed to work great on the Steam Deck! It also includes helpful features like adjustable font sizes and a special filter to reduce spider-related fears, which is perfect timing with the game’s new spider-themed event.

We’ve added two new gameplay modifiers for Witchfire players who want a truly difficult experience. You can find details about these changes in the Steam patch notes or on the official Witchfire website.

Witchfire is available now on Steam and Epic Games Store with a 20% discount.
