Final Fantasy 14 announced upcoming changes in Patch 7.4, including improvements to the deep dungeon system. Now, if players disconnect during a deep dungeon run, they can pick up where they left off as long as everyone reconnects quickly.
Patch 7.4, called ‘Into the Mist,’ acts as a bridge between the ‘Dawntrail’ expansion and the next big update for Final Fantasy 14. The main story for this patch consists of nine quests, beginning with ‘With the Winds.’ You can start it by talking to Alphinaud in Solution Nine after finishing all previous main story quests. As you play through the patch’s story, you’ll unlock the new Mistwake dungeon and the Hell on Rails trial. Patch 7.4 will also conclude the popular Arcadion raid series, with its final story unfolding over six quests started by accepting ‘Feral Fandom’ from Yaana in Solution Nine. Throughout early 2026, smaller updates will add even more content, including new Hildibrand quests and the variant dungeon, The Merchant’s Tale.
Final Fantasy 14 Is Saving Deep Dungeon Runs
The upcoming 7.4 update for Final Fantasy 14 will not only add new story content but also fix a frustrating issue with the deep dungeon feature. Starting December 16th, if everyone disconnects during a deep dungeon run, the progress will be saved as long as all players—even those playing solo—can reconnect within 10 minutes. This change was made in response to player feedback after recent DDoS attacks affected the game. Previously, a disconnect of the entire party meant losing all progress and having to restart from a specific floor. However, the run will still be lost if a player dies while others are disconnected.
Beyond changes to deep dungeons, the 7.4 update for Final Fantasy 14 introduces new features like the Strategy Board and Command Panel. The Strategy Board helps raid groups plan battles and understand where to go during challenging moments. The Command Panel lets players customize a space for less frequently used actions, like emotes, crafting shortcuts, and gear sets. Starting with Patch 7.4, players can also earn cosmetic rewards inspired by those from the retired Feast PvP mode. These updated rewards will have two dye slots, though their colors might be slightly different from the originals.
Other Changes Still To Come in Patch 7.4
Hey everyone, just a heads-up! Square Enix is dropping the details on the job balance changes for both PvE and PvP content during the 7.4 patch maintenance on Tuesday, December 16th, starting at 1:00 AM Eastern and lasting until about 5:00 AM. And get this – the day after the patch goes live, the Starlight Celebration is kicking off! We’ll be able to snag six new emotes and four cool housing items. It’s a Christmas-y event happening in Gridania from December 17th to the 31st, so mark your calendars!
Before the game updates on Tuesday, December 16th, players can get a free Fantasia by talking to a moogle in Old Gridania. Also, the Moogle Treasure Trove event ends when the update begins, so players who still need to finish anything in that event should do so within the next few days.

The following duties have been added as objectives for Wondrous Tails:
- Mistwake

- Worqor Chirteh (Triumph)
The free trial for Faux Hollows is now Tsukuyomi’s Pain (Unreal), instead of The Wreath of Snakes (Unreal).

We’ve updated the names and icons for some cheer emotes. “Cheer On,” “Cheer Wave,” and “Cheer Jump” are now called “Cheer On: Blue,” “Cheer Wave: Yellow,” and “Cheer Jump: Red” respectively. We’ve also made small adjustments to the icons for these emotes, including Cheer Wave: Violet.
Battle System

- Requires level 100
- Average item level 735 or higher
Item level sync (760) has been added to The Underkeep and The Meso Terminal dungeons.
A new trial, Hell on Rails, has been added, with Normal and Extreme difficulties.
- Requires level 100
- Average item level 745 or higher (Normal)
- Average item level 760 or higher (Extreme)
Tsukuyomi’s Pain (Unreal) has been added.
It’s now easier to get Wings of the Knighthood! They drop more often, and you can also buy them from Uah’shepya in Solution Nine (coordinates X:8.7 Y:13.5) for 99 Knight Totems.
The new raid dungeon AAC Heavyweight Tier has been added.
- Requires level 100
- Average item level 745 or higher
When you finish a challenging AAC Heavyweight Tier, you’ll get tokens instead of gear. These tokens let you choose the specific gear you want. You can only earn one token per week from each AAC Heavyweight Tier completion. If you receive a token as loot, you won’t be eligible for any other tokens in that instance, even if you chose to automatically receive items you need or want.
Also note that there is no weekly restriction on entering AAC Heavyweight Tier.
* Reward eligibility is reset every Tuesday at 12:00 a.m. PST (8:00 GMT / 19:00 AEDT)
You can trade items you find in treasure chests for new gear by talking to Hhihwi, who is located at coordinates X:8.7, Y:13.4 in Solution Nine.
After finishing the AAC Heavyweight M4 challenge, players receive a Heavy Holoblade each week. They can trade this Holoblade with Hhihwi at coordinates X:8.7, Y:13.4 in Solution Nine to get universal tomestones 3.0, which are then used to obtain weapons.
* Reward eligibility is reset every Tuesday at 12:00 a.m. PST (8:00 GMT / 19:00 AEDT)
The new raid dungeon AAC Heavyweight Tier (Savage) has been added.
The most challenging level of the Arena, AAC Heavyweight (Savage), won’t be available to play until Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 2:00 a.m. Pacific Time (10:00 a.m. GMT / 21:00 AEDT). Until then, you won’t be able to start the unlocking quest, trade items, or participate in the Stone, Sky, Sea event.
- Requires level 100
- AAC Heavyweight M1 (Savage): Average Item Level 760 or above
- AAC Heavyweight M2 (Savage): Average Item Level 765 or above
- AAC Heavyweight M3 (Savage): Average Item Level 770 or above
- AAC Heavyweight M4 (Savage): Average Item Level 770 or above
After you finish the Heavyweight Tier of Allagan Tomestones of Creation (Savage), you’ll receive treasure chests called Grand Champion’s Coffers. These chests turn into equipment that matches your current job. Completing the Heavyweight M4 (Savage) version of the content will specifically reward you with weapons.
Besides equipment, players will earn a copy of AAC Illustrated: HW Edition in each area. These can be traded for the gear you want. To exchange copies earned from the AAC Heavyweight Tier (Savage) for rewards, find Hhihwi at Solution Nine (coordinates X:8.7 Y:13.4).
Each player will get only one copy of AAC Illustrated per region after they finish that region for the first time.
If all players in a group are defeated during these trials, they will now gain the Echo ability.
- The Ageless Necropolis
- Each time players restart the aforementioned trial, they will be granted a 10% Echo effect boost, which increases each restart up to a maximum of 50%. If a player restarts after battling for less than three minutes, they will not be granted this effect.
- The Minstrel’s Ballad: Necron’s Embrace
- Each time players restart the aforementioned trial, they will be granted a 5% Echo effect boost, which increases each restart up to a maximum of 25%. If a player restarts after battling for less than three minutes, they will not be granted this effect.
The following adjustments have been made to San d’Oria: The Second Walk:
- The weekly restriction on rewards obtained from coffers has been removed.
- The weekly restriction on obtaining Montiont Coins has been removed.
Okay, so I’ve been doing the Pilgrim’s Traverse challenges, and the game now handles rewards a lot better when my inventory is full. Instead of just not getting anything, the rewards now pop up in my loot list temporarily. But heads up – if I leave the instance before I actually grab those rewards and put them in my bag, they’re gone for good! Gotta make sure I collect everything before I exit.
If everyone disconnects during a deep dungeon, your progress will now be saved for up to 10 minutes. As long as the whole party logs back in within that time, it won’t count as a failure. However, if anyone gets defeated while disconnected, it will count as a wipe.
A wipe also occurs if everyone else on your team disconnects while at least one person is knocked out.
The following additions have been made to the Occult Crescent: South Horn:
- Three new phantom jobs—Phantom Mystic Knight, Phantom Gladiator, and Phantom Dancer—have been added.
- New accessories offering bonus effects only active on the Occult Crescent have been added.
- Equipping these accessories while on the Occult Crescent will grant a number of effects including increased parameters and increased potency of certain actions.
- These accessories can be found, albeit rarely, as rewards from critical encounters, treasure coffers in the field, treasure coffers revealed by persistent pots, and happy bunnies that offer you treasure.
- New items are available from the expedition antiquarian on the south horn (X:38.1 Y:7.0).
- New rewards are available from treasure coffers in the field.
A new action, Eagle Eye Shot, is now available in variant dungeons. It’s a ranged attack that deals 150 damage.
Potency scales with item level.
We’ve updated the names of some sections. What used to be called “Variant Dungeons” is now simply “Variant,” and “Criterion Dungeons” is now called “Advanced/Criterion.”
Players will now see a notification in the game window if there’s new information available to view.
Allagan tomestones of mnemonics have been added.
Players can earn up to 450 Allagan tomestones of mnemonics each week, with a maximum storage of 2,000. To start earning these tomestones, you need to have at least one character at level 100 who is a Disciple of War or Magic (like a warrior, mage, or healer).
Talk to Zircon at coordinates X:8.6, Y:13.5 in Solution Nine to trade your Allagan tomestones of mnemonics for new equipment.
Talk to Theone at Solution Nine (coordinates X:8.5, Y:13.6) to get better gear when you trade in Allagan tomestones of mnemonics.
Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics
Players can now earn unlimited Allagan tomestones of mathematics. Previously, there was a weekly limit. Any activity that used to reward mathematics tomestones will now give Allagan tomestones of mnemonics instead.
* The maximum store of 2,000 tomestones has not been changed.
Allagan Tomestone of Heliometry
You can no longer get Allagan tomestones of heliometry. Instead, all the dungeons and trials that used to reward heliometry tomestones will now give you Allagan tomestones of mathematics.
Don’t worry, any Allagan tomestones of heliometry you earned before Patch 7.4 will still be useful! You can now trade them for Allagan tomestones of mathematics by visiting Auriana in Mor Dhona at coordinates (X:22.7, Y:6.7).
Allagan Tomestone of Aesthetics
Allagan tomestones of aesthetics have been removed from the game.
Allagan Tomestones of Poetics
You can still earn Allagan tomestones of poetics by completing dungeons and trials up to level 90, and through certain Duty Roulettes.
We’ve updated the Duty Finder to reflect the recent changes to Allagan tomestones.
The following trials have been added to Stone, Sky, Sea:
- Hell on Rails (Extreme)
- AAC Heavyweight
- AAC Heavyweight M1 (Savage)
- AAC Heavyweight M2 (Savage)
- AAC Heavyweight M3 (Savage)
- AAC Heavyweight M4 (Savage)
Duty Support has been added to the Dzemael Darkhold, Aurum Vale, and Mistwake dungeons.
Adjustments have been made to the following instanced dungeons:
- Dzemael Darkhold
- Certain dungeon mechanics have been adjusted.
- The positioning of certain monsters has been adjusted.
- The All-seeing Eye boss battle has been adjusted.
- The Taulurd boss battle has been adjusted.
- The Batraal boss battle has been adjusted.
- The Aurum Vale
- Certain dungeon mechanics have been adjusted.
- The positioning of certain monsters has been adjusted.
- The Locksmith boss battle has been adjusted.
- The Coincounter boss battle has been adjusted.
- The Miser’s Mistress boss battle has been adjusted.
Now, when you use Duty Support, the Will to Live effect you get in certain duties will also heal you gradually over time.
- The Mothercrystal
- Worqor Lar Dor
- Everkeep
- The Ageless Necropolis
If you’re using Duty Support or the Trust system and get knocked down by a boss, you’ll gain the Willful status effect when you retry the fight. This effect automatically saves you from fatal damage once, leaving you with 1 HP instead of defeating you.
If triggered, this effect briefly stops the player but instantly restores their health to full. The player also gains ‘Willful’ stacks each time they are knocked out, up to a maximum of five. Each stack lets them survive a fatal hit. Defeating the boss removes the ‘Willful’ effect and any unused stacks.
Players will receive the Willful status effect when starting these duties using Duty Support.
- The Bowl of Embers
- The Navel
- The Howling Eye
- The Porta Decumana
PVP
A number of previous PvP Series rewards have been made available in exchange for Trophy Crystals.
Okay, so Series 9 is wrapping up and Series 10 is about to start! I’m excited because it’ll run from Patch 7.4 until Patch 7.5 drops. Basically, any time we’re doing PvP during that time, we’ll earn Series EXP and level up. The higher our Series level gets, the more awesome rewards we unlock – I can’t wait to see what they are!
You have until the end of Series 10 to get your rewards from Series 9. To claim them, go to your PvP Profile, choose ‘Series Malmstones,’ and then select ‘Previous Series’.
In the Bayside Battleground, players will get a speed boost at their team’s base, even if the enemy team has advanced beyond their checkpoint.
You can now trade Commendation Crystals for new items. Plus, different color versions of some rewards earned in the Feast are now available.
Season Seventeen will end and Season Eighteen will begin.
At the end of the season, the best players will get rewards delivered through the moogle system. Specifically, the top 300 players from North America, Europe, and Japan, and the top 100 from Oceania, will receive vouchers.
If you finish in the Bronze tier or better, you can get your rewards by talking to the Seasonal Quartermaster at the Wolves’ Den Pier (coordinates X:4.9 Y:5.7).
* Tier rewards for Season Seventeen must be claimed before the end of Season Eighteen.
When Season Eighteen starts, players will begin five ranks lower than where they ended in Season Seventeen. Players in Rising Stars will start back at rank one. Those who finished in the Omega or Ultima tiers will begin in the Crystal tier and receive 100 Crystal Credits.
Players ending the season with no rank or at the Bronze 3 level, and who haven’t earned any Risers, will maintain their current ranking.
Season Eighteeen will take place on the Gaia, Primal, Chaos, and Materia Data Centers.
Frontline
Worqor Chirteh (Triumph) has been added to Frontline.
Three teams representing the major adventuring companies will fight for supremacy on the historic Yok Huy battlefield. Each team consists of twenty-four players. They’ll have to adapt to changing weather conditions and even magical snow spirits as they strive for victory, embracing both the benefits and challenges of the land.
Items
We’ve added new items and recipes to the game. A complete list of everything added in Patch 7.4 will be available soon.
Hey everyone, just a quick update! Some of the emote names have been tweaked, and the names on those cool posters for our seasonal events are now showing the year they first came out. It’s a little detail, but I think it adds a nice touch!
Several items, including Anima weapons, PVP armor, and other cosmetics, now have two dye channels.
You can now buy Quetzalli equipment from Ryubool Ja in Tuliyollal (coordinates X:13.9 Y:13.4) using sacks of nuts as payment.
We’ve fixed a problem with exchanging crafted gear for tokens. Previously, you could accidentally submit high-quality (HQ) gear in the menu for normal-quality (NQ) gear, which would give you the wrong number of tokens. Now, the system prevents you from submitting HQ gear in the NQ gear menu, ensuring you receive the correct reward.
You can now sell, break down, deliver as expert tasks, or use certain items to get materia.
We’ve updated the glamour system! These changes affect how appearances are customized for your character, retainers, squadron members, and those receiving Custom Deliveries.
- Equipment can now be glamoured regardless of class or job requirements.
- Weapons and tools must be glamoured with the same type of item. (Dark knight’s arms with dark knight’s arms, shields with shields, etc.)
- Equipment can now be glamoured regardless of level requirements.
- Glamoured equipment will display regardless of your character’s current class, job, or level.
- Following these adjustments, some pieces of equipment already glamoured that were not displaying in Patch 7.38 or prior may display in Patch 7.4 and onward.* Please note that equipment restrictions based on race, gender, and Grand Company affiliation will still apply.
- The number of glamour prisms or glamour dispellers in your inventory will now be displayed when casting or dispelling a glamour.
You can now create glamour outfits without needing a full set of gear. The cost of creating a glamour will depend on how many individual pieces you use.
You can now see how many items are currently equipped in your outfit glamour on each set within the Glamour Dresser. If you’ve collected all the pieces for a glamour, the number will appear in orange. If pieces are still missing, the number will be white.
If you’ve already saved a glamour outfit but want to add more items to it, here’s how you can do that:
- In the Glamour Dresser window, select “Add Missing Outfit Gear” from the subcommand menu.
- Select the “Outfit Glamour” option on the pieces you wish to store.
The amount of glamour prisms used will depend on how many items you add to your outfit. We’ve also included more options for older gear – like job-specific, race-specific, and other unique fashion items – so you can create more looks.
You can now repair all your gear at once – including what you’re wearing, items in the Armoury Chest, and everything else in your inventory.
The confirmation prompt when extracting materia has been removed.
The following settings can be adjusted when beginning trial synthesis:
- Starting Quality
- Condition always normal.
- The trial synthesis settings window will now reopen once trial synthesis is complete.
You may now choose to synthesize only NQ items when using Quick Synthesis.
Several gathering points have been added and adjusted.
New fish have been added.
Fishers may now change their active bait while mounted.
The special effects for Precision Hookset and Powerful Hookset will now only appear when you successfully hook fish that respond to those skills.
The time spent immobile after gathering has been reduced.
The level cap for desynthesis has been increased from 750 to 770.
You may now choose to receive only NQ items when desynthesizing.
Aethernet shards have been placed in Sinus Ardorum and Phaenna.
Attuning with these shards will grant you access to the region’s aethernet.
With the 7.41 update, you’ll find Aethernet shards appearing on the Oizys star as it develops. Starting with update 7.4, all Aethernet shards are located on Sinus Ardorum and Phaenna.
Now, when you complete multiple missions on the same star, you’ll receive a bonus score based on how many gold star ranks you earn in a row.
As a player, I’ve learned that getting gold stars on missions – especially the harder ones like Class A or Stellar missions – really helps you level up! Each gold star adds to your overall gold count, which goes from 1 to 5. Once you hit 5, you become a Super Star! Plus, if you manage to collect two or more gold stars, you’ll get some awesome bonus rewards.
We’ve added new mounts, chocobo barding, facewear, and minions! Plus, you’ll now see a green mark next to any facewear you’ve recently gotten in the Facewear menu, making it easier to find your newest items.
Graphical Update
The following adjustments have been made to certain NPCs:
- Model quality, texture resolution, and material qualities of faces have been improved.
- Texture resolution and material qualities of gear have been improved.
Graphical details for several pieces of gear have been improved.
System
To help keep our servers running smoothly, we’re adding extra copies of certain game elements for Solution Nine, Living Memory, and the areas added in the recent 7.4 patch. We’ll keep an eye on server performance and remove these extra copies once the issues are resolved.
To improve performance, we previously created multiple versions of the Il Mheg, Urqopacha, and Shaaloani zones. With the latest update, we are removing these extra versions and returning to a single instance for each.
We’ve added new achievements and titles for you to earn! Now, completing certain tasks and challenges will help you unlock these achievements. Please note that after Patch 7.4 is released, progress on The Wreath of Snakes (Unreal) will no longer contribute to achievement completion.
We’ve added new options for retainer exploration. You can now find new items through quick exploration ventures.
We’ve added a new strategy board feature to help you and your party tackle difficult challenges. These boards let you visually plan and coordinate using icons, symbols, and markers. You can view them during duties and share them with other players.
You can design your own strategy boards, or use and share boards created by other players. Find this option in the main menu under ‘Party’, then select ‘Strategy Board’.
We’ve added the Command Panel, a new way to quickly access actions and commands. It’s like a hotbar, but with more space! Each panel holds 25 slots, and you get four panels in total, giving you plenty of room for your most-used commands.
The Command Panel can be found under the Extras tab of the Actions & Traits menu.
Clear White and Clear Green have been added to Theme Settings under System Configuration.
New portrait accents and poses have been added.
Several additions and adjustments have been made to group pose.
Visual alerts and color filtering settings can now be adjusted on PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The following additions and adjustments have been made to gamepad inputs:
- Using directional buttons to move the cursor now provides a smoother experience.
- The Command Panel can now be assigned to left thumb-click (L3) and right thumb-click (R3).
- Configure this setting via the System Configuration menu by selecting Gamepad Settings (Controller Settings) and using the Button Configuration option under Gamepad Customization (Controller Customization).
We’ve added new trophies for PlayStation players and achievements for Xbox players, along with updated music, sound effects, and voiceovers.
