American Filmmaker Rob Reiner, Wife Found Dead in Los Angeles Home

Actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was nominated for an Academy Award, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their home in Los Angeles on Sunday, December 14th. Police suspect foul play. Their son, Nick, is currently in police custody and is being held on a $4 million bond related to charges concerning his parents’ deaths.

Early Tuesday morning, around 3:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the home of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner after a request for medical assistance from one of their children. Firefighters discovered both Rob, 78, and Michele, 68, deceased. Los Angeles Police Department homicide detectives began investigating. Later that evening, at 9:15 p.m., their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and booked into jail the following morning around 5 a.m. Authorities later confirmed that both victims died from stab wounds. Details surrounding Nick Reiner’s arrest and upcoming court appearance are currently limited.

I was so shocked to hear about Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle. They’d been married since 1989 and had two wonderful kids, Jake and Romy. It’s just heartbreaking. The news really hit everyone hard – even people like Billy Crystal and Larry David, who apparently rushed over to their house during everything and were completely devastated. Governor Newsom even spoke about it, praising Rob not just for his incredible films, but also for all the important work he did championing kids’ rights, fighting against tobacco, and supporting education. It’s a huge loss, and he’ll be remembered for so much more than just directing some of my favorite movies.

I first noticed Rob Reiner way back in the 70s – he was popping up in shows like Manhunt and even Batman! But honestly, he really became a star when he played Meathead on All in the Family. He was the perfect counterpoint to Archie Bunker, and he actually won two Emmys for it! But for me, his biggest impact is definitely as the director and producer behind The Princess Bride. That movie is a classic, and I think that’s what he’ll be remembered for most.

Rob Reiner gained significant recognition as a director in 1992 with the critically acclaimed film A Few Good Men, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture and two other awards. He’s also known for directing popular movies like This is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally and Stand By Me, and for his acting roles in films such as The Wolf of Wall Street, The Jerk, Throw Momma from the Train, Sleepless in Seattle, and The Majestic. His last on-screen appearance was in 2025, when he revisited his role as Marty DiBergi in Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues.
