This article contains spoilers from the Egghead Arc of the series.
The popular manga and anime series One Piece is now in its final storyline, meaning the author, Eiichiro Oda, is beginning to reveal the most powerful characters in the series. The current arc, taking place on Egghead Island, is gradually introducing these incredibly strong fighters who will be central to the story’s climax. While characters in One Piece have many different powers, Oda has consistently shown that the strongest fighters currently rely on a special ability called Haki.
Haki, a spiritual energy used for both attack and defense, has always been important in One Piece, particularly when fighting Devil Fruit users. However, its significance has recently increased dramatically, especially after seeing how effective it is against the seemingly magical powers of Imu. And now, the One Piece Egghead Arc – specifically episode 1153 of the anime – has officially revealed the strongest Haki user in history: Joy Boy.
Joy Boy’s Haki Is The Strongest Of All Time In One Piece
As a huge One Piece fan, I’m completely fascinated by Joy Boy! The Egghead arc has started to reveal so much about him. We’re learning he actually lived in the Ancient Kingdom – the one that was destroyed about 800 years ago. Apparently, he ended up battling a coalition of twenty kings! It seems they were terrified of the Ancient Kingdom’s incredible technology and wanted to wipe it all out, and Joy Boy was right in the middle of it all.
Conqueror’s Haki, sometimes called the Color of the Supreme King, is a powerful ability possessed by many strong individuals. Unlike other Haki, you can’t directly train it to become more potent. It’s a reflection of the user’s own spirit and will grow stronger as the user themselves improves. — Silvers Rayleigh explaining to Luffy
Joy Boy was incredibly strong, not only because he had the power of Gear 5 – meaning he ate the Nika Devil Fruit – but also due to his immense Haki. We saw a taste of just how powerful his Haki was in One Piece Episode 1153 when Emeth fully unleashed it. While Joy Boy was powerful overall, fans were particularly impressed by the strength of his Haki.
Joy Boy was likely the strongest Haki user in the world of One Piece. His Haki was powerful enough to split the sky on its own and even knock out Vice Admirals, who are normally very resistant to strong Haki attacks.
Joy Boy’s immense Haki wasn’t just powerful – it completely disabled Imu’s Devil Fruit powers and forced the Elders to retreat. It even terrified Imu, causing them to cry out in pain and relive a past trauma inflicted by Joy Boy. While we haven’t seen the full extent of Joy Boy’s abilities yet, the story is clearly building towards revealing them.
Only Shanks Comes Close To Joy Boy In Terms Of Haki
Today, several characters demonstrate impressive Haki abilities, but only one seems to approach the level of the legendary Joy Boy: Red-Haired Shanks. During Joy Boy’s display of immense Haki, Dorry and Brogy immediately drew a comparison to Shanks, questioning whether it was even stronger. While it’s still uncertain who is more powerful, fans widely believe their Haki levels are remarkably similar.
I won’t argue that’s unfair, sailor. But attacking those young, budding leaves – the ones that signaled the end of the old pirate days? Isn’t that going too far? Are you really that scared of what’s coming next?
Essentially, Shanks’ Haki was so powerful that it made even the incredibly strong Dorry and Brogy question who was the better fighter. While Joy Boy is likely the answer to that question, the fact that Shanks’ Haki is comparable to Joy Boy’s is a huge accomplishment. It suggests Shanks’ Haki is either very near or potentially equal to Joy Boy’s level.
I’m really excited to see where Oda takes things with all of this, but right now, Joy Boy’s Haki just feels like another incredible display of how powerful Shanks truly is!
Joy Boy’s Full Power Will Be Fleshed Out Soon Enough In One Piece
The recent glimpse into the past featuring the earlier Joy Boy is now finished. Vegapunk’s explanation is also wrapping up, and fans anticipate a long wait before seeing more of Joy Boy’s story. However, it’s almost guaranteed that we’ll eventually get a full flashback detailing his life.
We’ll definitely learn more about Joy Boy’s power and his fight against Imu during the upcoming flashback. This will also reveal the circumstances surrounding his death. Until then, the full story of Joy Boy remains a mystery in One Piece.
Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga, One Piece, follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, on their adventure to find the legendary treasure, the One Piece.
