Another Embracer Studio, Lost Boys Interactive, Hit With Layoffs

As a long-time gaming enthusiast who’s witnessed the rise and fall of countless studios, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness with each new round of layoffs. Today, it’s Lost Boys Interactive that joins the list, a studio known for their work on games like Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Diablo IV, and more.

Yet again, a studio under the Embracer Group umbrella, Lost Boys Interactive, has faced staff reductions.

Last Friday afternoon, a well-known co-developer who has worked on games such as Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Diablo IV, and others posted on LinkedIn that they had taken the tough step of reducing their total workforce.

As a dedicated follower, I can tell you that in their latest update, the company shared they are directly shaped by the initiatives and focus areas of their development partners. To adapt to the ever-changing market trends, they’ve found it necessary to reevaluate their internal workings.

Shaun Nivens, CEO of Lost Boys Interactive, acknowledges the potential effect of this decision on our team members, whose efforts have been instrumental to our achievements. He emphasizes that decisions concerning workforce reductions are not taken lightly and were made only after exhausting all other alternatives. The company is dedicated to providing assistance in every possible way during this period of transition.

On previous occasions, Lost Boys Interactive has faced layoffs. Earlier in the year, roughly 125 out of their 400 employees were let go.

As of now, we don’t have details about how many employees were affected by the recent layoffs. Once that figure is announced, it will bring the total number of job losses in the gaming industry for the year 2024 to more than 12,000. Last year alone, the industry experienced a loss of around 10,500 jobs.

Neither Embracer Group nor Lost Boys Interactive have yet provided a statement regarding TopMob’s queries about the justification behind the job cuts.

The studio expresses its commitment to providing top-notch, comprehensive development services to their existing collaborators and customers.
