Action and displays of power are central to most anime series. These shows often feature incredibly powerful characters who can cause widespread destruction to anyone who opposes them. While many anime boast impressive strength, the title of “The Strongest” carries particular significance and weight.
Simply being physically strong isn’t enough to be considered ‘The Strongest.’ True strength means excelling in every area – power, speed, intelligence, and even personality. While many anime characters claim to be the strongest, few actually reach that level. Here’s a look at some of the best who truly embody the title.
Being ‘The Strongest’ isn’t always about having the most raw power, though often those who are considered the strongest do possess it. It’s more about overall strength of character.
Honestly, while a character’s power level is key, a show’s overall quality and how well-known it is do play a role – the truly strongest characters are the ones everyone immediately thinks of. Take Yogiri from My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me – he’s ridiculously powerful, maybe even the strongest ever! But the show itself just didn’t quite land with most people, so he doesn’t really fit into the conversation about the most impactful powerhouses.
10. Saiki Kusuo
The Strongest Psychic Who Can Do Pretty Much Anything
Saiki Kusuo is unbelievably powerful, far surpassing almost everyone else mentioned here. He possesses a huge array of abilities, including clairvoyance, teleportation, and control over electricity and fire, among countless others – each one strong enough on its own to be considered extraordinary. He’s so strong, in fact, that he constantly wears a device to suppress his powers, because if he didn’t, he’d unintentionally destroy the world. Even with this limiter, he can still accomplish amazing things that most heroes in action-packed stories couldn’t even imagine.
Because The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is a comedy focused on school life and gags, Saiki’s incredible powers are mostly used for laughs. He rarely gets to use them in serious battles. This holds him back in terms of power rankings, because the anime is all about how even the most powerful character can be thrown into chaos by a truly bizarre group of friends.
9. Yujiro Hanma
The Strongest Creature on Earth
The world of Baki is full of incredibly powerful fighters, but Yujiro Hanma is in a league of his own. Throughout the series, his son, Baki, constantly strives to surpass him, battling opponents who would be considered the strongest anywhere else. However, Yujiro’s dominance is absolute – no one even attempts to challenge his position. He’s more than just a human; he truly embodies the monstrous strength his nickname suggests.
Yujiro is unbelievably strong, so much so that world leaders fear his power – he could obliterate nations with ease. He’s also exceptionally ruthless, severely punishing anyone who shows weakness. Aside from a bit of pride, he doesn’t seem to have any flaws.
Yujiro admits he was never able to beat his father, Yuchiro, but Yuchiro passed away before the events of the anime began.
8. Sung Jinwoo
The Shadow Monarch
The anime Solo Leveling quickly became incredibly popular, largely thanks to its exceptionally powerful main character and his unique ability to command shadows. Initially, Sung Jinwoo was a very weak hunter – ranked the lowest possible level – but everything changed after he became trapped in a dangerous double dungeon and gained incredible powers.
Sung Jinwoo is becoming incredibly powerful, gaining strength with each fight and now able to control the spirits of his defeated enemies as his own army. This growing power and his dark forces create a formidable presence, making it clear he shouldn’t be underestimated. Although his story is largely complete in the original source material, the anime hasn’t caught up yet, meaning he’ll continue to evolve. Even now, though, he’s far stronger than almost any other hunter.
7. Madara Uchiha
The Ghost Of The Uchiha
Even a century after his death, the name Madara Uchiha still strikes fear into the hearts of ninjas. He was a uniquely powerful figure – the only true rival the legendary ‘God of Ninja’ ever faced – and nearly single-handedly launched a major attack against the Hidden Leaf Village.
Madara possesses a quiet confidence that masks incredible power, comparable to the strongest beings in the ninja world. He’s a legendary figure, and his single-handed confrontation with an entire army during the Fourth Great Ninja War is enough to cement his place among the most formidable characters ever.
6. Shanks
The Red-Haired Emperor
Shanks is a truly intimidating figure in the world of One Piece, widely considered to be among the series’ most powerful characters. He’s a Sea Emperor, respected and feared for being both incredibly strong and surprisingly kind.
Shanks is a powerful figure who commands respect. While he’s known for being peaceful, don’t mistake that for weakness – he’s capable of incredible destruction, even splitting the ocean with a single swing of his sword. He’s one of the few who could stand against a force like Whitebeard, earning him a legendary reputation among fans of the series and the anime world in general.
5. All Might
The Symbol Of Peace
My Hero Academia took inspiration from Western comic books and introduced a truly exceptional superhero: All Might. He’s a character who naturally projects confidence, honor, and immense power. All Might began his journey as an ordinary young man, without any special abilities, who simply wanted to improve the world. After receiving the Quirk One For All from Nana Shimura, he rose to become the most celebrated hero of all time.
Throughout his career, All Might was known for directly confronting danger and ending conflicts. Just by showing up, and even just letting people see him, he could quell chaos and bring peace to a troubled country, rightfully earning his reputation as the world’s strongest hero.
4. Isaac Netero
The Master Of Nene That Stands Above
The anime and manga series Hunter x Hunter features a world brimming with incredibly powerful people. Each person possesses unique, supernatural abilities, and with dedicated training, these individuals – known as Hunters – can reach astonishing levels of power, potentially becoming godlike.
That was the journey of Issac Netero, Chairman of the Hunters’ Association. He trained his body to an extraordinary degree, becoming incredibly powerful and respected – a true master who stood above all others in skill and dedication.
3. Benimaru
The King Of Destruction
Fire Force is an anime about a world where people suddenly burst into flames, transforming into destructive creatures known as Infernals. These fiery monsters cause chaos and threaten the lives of everyone around them.
The Fire Force was established to fight dangerous creatures, and it’s made up of both ordinary people and those with special abilities. One of its strongest members is Benimaru Shinmon, the captain of the Seventh Company. Benimaru is a powerful ‘pyrotechnic,’ meaning he can create and control fire with incredible skill. Through intense training, he’s honed his body into a devastating weapon, capable of finishing fights with a single blow. His powerful abilities are matched by his confident and wise demeanor.
2. Satoru Gojo
The Lone Honored One
Satoru Gojo is widely considered one of the most powerful characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. Born with incredible natural talent, including the Limitless technique and Six Eyes, he brought an era of peace because no curse or curse user could defeat him.
As Satoru aged, his power increased dramatically, eventually making him the strongest and most respected jujutsu sorcerer of all time. He was so powerful that even the most dangerous curses seemed insignificant when facing him, and he barely had to exert himself to defeat them.
1. Saitama
The One Punch God
One-Punch Man is a popular series about a world filled with professional heroes who protect people from monsters. The main character, Saitama, was once a normal person, but through intense training, he became the strongest hero in existence.
Saitama defeats every enemy with just one punch, relying solely on his incredible strength, speed, and willpower. He’s so powerful that he has to constantly restrain himself to avoid causing catastrophic damage. He can effortlessly destroy opponents with minimal effort, showcasing his overwhelming power.
Honorable Mentions
Anime is full of incredibly powerful characters capable of amazing feats, like destroying mountains or leaping over buildings. While some characters are clearly the strongest, others could also be considered top-tier powerhouses.
- Accelerator (A Certain Magical Index/A Certain Scientific Railgun) – The strongest Esper, Accelerator is initially far more powerful than anybody else; even after his power is reduced significantly, he is still stronger than nearly anybody else.
- Ainz (Overlord) – Isekai anime has such an overabundance of overpowered protagonists that they kind of cancel each other out. That said, Ainz is probably the strongest.
- Anos Voldigoad (The Misfit of Demon King Academy) – Anos is overpowered enough to make other OP characters seem weak. If it were not for the underwhelming sequels, he might have been included.
- Broly (Dragon Ball) – Dragon Ball is surprisingly hard to pick a candidate, as there are too many who kind of fit. Once upon a time, Goku was regarded as the definitive “strong anime character,” but that reputation has faded in recent years. Lore-wise, Zeno is definitely the strongest Dragon Ball character, but he is a relatively minor figure in the story. Ultimately, Broly is the best pick due to his “Legendary Super Saiyan” status, but his aura was hurt by multiple losses.
- Koro-sensei (Assassination Classroom) – This quirky octopus basically holds the entire world hostage for a year, and he only lets go when he is good and ready.
- Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama (Mob Psycho 100) – Mob was mostly left out because One-Punch Man‘s Saitama was already part of the main list.
- Yogiri Takatou (My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me) – I mean, I still have to include Yogiri since he can kill anybody with a single thought. Hell, his power is not even limited to living objects.
