7. Goto Ryuji Vs Sung Jinwoo

Jinwoo’s Sparring Session With Japan’s Greatest Hunter

  • Anime: Episode 22, “We Need a Hero”
  • IMDB Rating: 8.8

As the group preparing for the attack on Jeju Island was about to depart, there was a joint training session between Japanese and Korean hunters. In many of these matches, the Japanese hunters were noticeably stronger than their Korean counterparts, making the disparity in power quite apparent.

In the past, I’ve found myself staring at the edge of mortality on several occasions. I have encountered E-Rank beasts and ended up in the hospital for weeks following the attacks. Once, I even came close to dying while navigating a labyrinth. No matter how low-tiered the dungeon was, I was always battling for survival. ~ Sung Jinwoo

The dynamic shifted significantly when Sung Jinwoo squared off against Goto Ryuji, leaving the former taken aback by his swiftness. Renowned as Japan’s top hunter, Goto took immense pride in his power, but he was flabbergasted to find that Jinwoo seemed to have countermeasures for all his tactics. To make matters worse, Sung managed not only to keep pace with the hunter but also compelled him to treat each moment of their sparring match with gravity.

Intrigued by Jinwoo’s overpowering strength, Goto struggled to counter his formidable opponent. Regardless of his efforts, he couldn’t gain the upper hand. Eventually, Goto grew so frustrated that he considered a fatal strike, but fortunately, the fight was interrupted by other hunters before it could escalate further. If not for their timely intervention, Ryuji might have suffered a severe injury during the intense battle between Goto and Jinwoo.

6. Vulcan Vs Sung Jinwoo

Sung Defeats Demon Castle’s Second Boss

  • Anime: Episode 15, “Still a Long Way to Go”
  • IMDB Rating: 8.6

From my vantage point, I bear witness to the mighty ruler of the 50th floor in Demon Castle, Vulcan – an S-Ranked demon endowed with extraordinary abilities and prodigious strength. It’s a spectacle that leaves one in awe as I observe this towering figure, seemingly out of place given his considerable size. However, what transpires next is nothing short of astonishing: despite his imposing stature, Vulcan demonstrates an agility that belies expectations, leaving Sung Jinwoo momentarily taken aback upon their first encounter on the floor.

The ensuing fight proved to be fierce, with Jinwoo ultimately emerging victorious. However, his victory wasn’t as straightforward as he initially thought, for Vulcan showed great resilience and demonstrated an impressive combination of strength and agility in their struggle.

5. Kargalgan Vs Sung Jinwoo

Jinwoo Rescues The Hunters Guild’s Raid Party

  • Anime: Episode 18, “Don’t Look Down on My Guys”
  • IMDB Rating: 9.7

In the predicament where the elite team from the Hunters Guild found themselves pinned down by Kargalgan, the high orc shaman, and his followers, Jinwoo happened to be present. The head of the Hunters Guild Gate had a mischievous inclination towards tormenting the hunters before ultimately exterminating them all for amusement.

Before Kargalgan could carry out his cruel intentions, Sung Jinwoo stepped forward to challenge him. Unaware of Jinwoo’s abilities, the powerful orc shaman assaulted, but couldn’t touch his opponent. It quickly became clear to Kargalgan that Jinwoo was no ordinary human, and despite having a horde of high orcs backing him up, he seemed powerless. The battle leaned heavily in Jinwoo’s favor, making it one of the most impressive fights in the series, as it was one of the first times that Sung’s powers were shown off to such an extent for other hunters to witness.

4. Ant King Vs Jeju Island Raid Party

Korean And Japanese Hunters Are Overwhelmed By The Ant King

  • Anime: Episode 23, “It’s Going to Get Even More Intense”
  • IMDB Rating: 9.7

As I watched, the Korean and Japanese forces were huddled in strategic discussion about a joint operation to retake Jeju Island, an event seemed to unfold among the colony of ants nearby. The Ant Queen appeared to be in labor, giving birth to what would soon become her most formidable offspring – the Ant King.

Over time, as I continued my observation, it became apparent that the Ant King was evolving at an extraordinary rate. By the time the hunters arrived on this desolate island, the Ant King had reached a level of maturity and understanding in combat tactics that left me awestruck.

Are there others? Others you call king? ~ Ant King

In a surprising turn of events, the Ant Queen faced the group of raiders from Jeju Island, taken aback by an adversary that overpowered them. Every subsequent skirmish served as proof of the Ant Queen’s supremacy, as she effortlessly dispatched some of the world’s top hunters without so much as a bead of sweat.

3. Baran Vs Sung Jinwoo

Jinwoo Clears The Demon Castle To Cure His Mother

  • Anime: Episode 20, “Looking Up Was Tiring Me Out”
  • IMDB Rating: 9.5

Since Sung Jinwoo took on the role of a hunter, he’s consistently put his family ahead of himself. Consequently, upon discovering that he could revive his mother from her eternal sleep by obtaining the rare elixir known as the Holy Water of Life, it was only natural for him to focus on acquiring this elusive potion.

In contrast, acquiring the necessary ingredients proved challenging since he had to overcome the formidable S-Rank instant dungeon known as Demon Castle. On its ultimate level, Sung Jinwoo encountered Baran, the Monarch of White Flames. Unlike regular adversaries, Baran was no pushover; he made Jinwoo stretch his abilities and even caught him off guard with some of his attacks. The battle was a fierce one, every second pulsating with calculated strikes, tactical parries, and nail-biting suspense.

2. Baruka Vs Sung Jinwoo, Igris, And Iron

Sung Jinwoo Clears The Red Gate

  • Anime: Episode 13, “I Suppose You Aren’t Aware”
  • IMDB Rating: 9.5

In the Red Gate saga, Sung Jinwoo and several low-ranking hunters found themselves trapped inside a dungeon, with no help coming their way. As they faced imminent danger at every corner, it was Jinwoo who stepped up to ensure the survival of his group members. Meanwhile, all the hunters under Kim Chul’s command met a gruesome end.

It seems that after making significant progress and becoming stronger than ever, I can’t help but feel as though a part of myself is being diminished or disappearing with each newfound strength, according to Sung Jinwoo.

Despite being generally confident in facing magic beasts within the Red Gate dungeon, Sung discovered that Baruka, the dungeon boss, was a formidable adversary far stronger than him. Jinwoo cleverly turned to Igris for assistance, but even with help, overcoming this foe appeared almost impossible.

In the show, there aren’t many occasions where Jinwoo seems anything but certain of his triumph. However, this was an instance where he seemed uncertain, prompting him to grow. The immense power and hunger for supremacy displayed by Baruka made Jinwoo’s eventual victory all the more challenging and rewarding.

1. Ant King Vs Sung Jinwoo

Sung Jinwoo Saves The Korean Hunters

  • Anime: Episode 24, “Are You the King of Humans?”
  • IMDB Rating: 9.9

A group was assembled for a raid on Jeju Island, following the realization that ants were rapidly evolving and posed a serious threat to both Japan and Korea. The objective of this mission was to eliminate the Ant Queen, with the belief that her absence would prevent any new ants from being born. Since ants have a short lifespan, those already alive would die out within a year without a queen to reproduce.

Initially, the plan appeared flawless, but upon reaching the deserted island by Korean and Japanese hunters, they encountered a formidable foe that instilled terror. One by one, the hunters were mercilessly attacked, leaving Sung Jinwoo with an ominous feeling that his team was in grave danger. This situation ultimately led to a momentous battle between Sung Jinwoo and Ant King, with the fate of countless lives hanging in the balance.

Stepping into the ring for a showdown that’ll go down in history, every detail from the build-up to the climactic battle between these two titans was meticulously planned to create an epic display of tactics and might. Among all the fierce encounters during season 2 of Solo Leveling, none could rival the electrifying intensity of Jinwoo Sung’s faceoff with the Ant King.
